In this interview Geoff easily silences all the (stoopid!) haters by coming across as a very likeable, knowledgeable, intelligent and pleasant gentleman. His musical pedigree is at a royal level in the metal world - and will always remain. Good to know he is an active businessman and a busy guy. I really enjoyed hearing what he had to say. Rock on, Geoff!

40 years a fan... And I love Geoff's soothing speaking voice just as much as his singing, guy is a legend. Saw the Ryche 3 times back in the day. Once (at arm's length) circa 1985 as a surprise guest (word had reached me somehow) at the inauguration of L'Amour Far East on Long Island, once in 1987 I think, opening up for Metallica at the Nassau Coliseum on the Justice Tour, and once in Paris in 1990 with Lynch Mob. What a time for music. Strangely, the Rage for Order album can seem prophetic, considering what the world has become.

Thank you Geoff and the OG Queensrÿche band. I am forever grateful for the endless hours of entertainment the band has brought to my life and I'm certain through to the end of my days. My greatest Queensrÿche moment was around 1986 when I battled my way to the front row at the old Santa Monica Civic (I want to say Yngwie Malmsteen & Saxon were all on that same bill), where I received a fist bump from Tate himself. A legendary moment in my band chasing (much younger) life in the LA heavy metal scene. I remember that fist bump moment like yesterday (even if I can't recall the exact set of bands that night). So yes, thank you Geoff Tate. For all of it. You'll live on forever as a generational voice for a generational band. That counts for something in my book. P.s. I NEVER BOUGHT ANOTHER 'RYCHE ALBUM AFTER GT LEFT THE BAND. It was NEVER the same.

Gotta say… I was a fan since the Myth days. Once I heard Geoff’s voice on the Myth demo I asked Randy G. (then working at 7-11) to ask Geoff for Maestro Kyle’s number, then became a student myself. (thanks Randy & Geoff, RIP DK) Geoff seemed to go through a rough phase, both vocally and with a bit of arrogance. Because he’s in the public eye we all got to see it. Watching recent performances and interviews, it seems he has moved beyond that and sounds great again - and seems like a good dude once again. I’m happy to see this interview and hope to see a show soon.

I know exactly what he means about lyric writing. It's true with composition, melodies, textures and arrangement. But it's especially true with lyric writing - you can't emulate other lyrical styles - you can learn ideas that may influence your thought process, but ultimately, you just have to write it how you hear it and how you feel it. Word choice is going to necessarily vary from one author to another, even to convey the same idea. And your vocal performance will be far more impactful if you use your own words. And you'll write lyrics faster because you aren't trying to think through a bunch of layers of grammatical and prose style rules.

Not surprised that Geoff's ego wouldn't allow him to realize that we don't listen to music WITH empathy; we listen to music FOR empathy. Regardless of what he is going through to compell him to write a song, we listen because of how it speaks to us. It's the actual key as to how we relate and gravitate to artists. But he's only been in the business for 50 years. He'll get it someday

I will say they have improved greatly and at this point they are pretty solid. Years ago I went to one of Geoff's shows down in FLA and there were questionable harmony lines..enough of them that my non-musician friend asked me...was that right? It didn't sound right.. No..it was not.... But, that said, since then, his touring band has put in the work and they are kicking ass pretty consistently now. I love Geoff and Queensryche.
