With huge machinery like this, electrical efficiency and power factor are very important. The driving motor probably rated at just enough power to keep the fan at rated RPM, hence the slow start-up.

What a big fan and it's very quiet operation but why does it spin so slowly and I thought it was a high RPM fan and what is fresh air intake?
@Derek.Eva.Nightingale6 ай бұрын
With any fan, the energy required (current in amperes if electrically driven) at the initiation of start up is to overcome the static inertia, plus friction in the drive system. As the machine rotational speed increases, the air it now begins to move creates resistance, which requires proportionally more energy, until the maximum rotational speed is approached, at which point the turning force, or torque, should remain constant. It is the opposite situation (regarding starting from standstill), to a motor driving, say, a compressor, lathe or other machine, which requires an initial high starting torque, or electrical current. BUT...... you already knew that, I would have thought....(!!)
