Part of the problem with interviews is that the press is primarily interested in "gotcha," in creating conflict, or in handicapping the horse-race. So an "interview" still doesn't elucidate any issues. Yes we need candidates to do interviews, but we need the press to do interviews too, rather than just taking opportunities to create click-bait.
