What a great tribute. Quentin always gives these obscure Hollywood heros the dignity in honoring them by enthusiastically talking about the details and giving everyone a lesson about it

7 years later, he makes a movie with a lead character based on Hal Needham.

Hal Needham was an inspiration for Brad Pitt’s character Cliff Booth in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and I definitely see why

You have to admire the man for his enthusiasm and appreciation of movies. And by that I mean all kinds of movies, even the ones movie snobs consider lowbrow. I loved Ishtar, too.

Quentin and Hal talking after the ceremony. Quentin: “have you ever heard about Charles Manson?” Hal: “a bit, he got that Tate girl killed back in 1969” Quentin: “yeah, his parole request was denied earlier this year” Hal: “I remember that night, I was high on LCD, if I had been in front of those guys on that night, that would have ended very bad for those Manson guys I can tell you that” “Once upon a time in Hollywood” was born.

The adventures of Hal Needham and Brock Yates are up until today some of the most ridiculously awesome shenanigans a man could ever come up with. I am convinced that both Hal and Brock, when their final moment came and they looked back, there was nothing to regret. Not a minute of it.

Thankfully we have obsessed fans like Tarantino to remind people that the Hollywood legends of yesterday paved the way for the stars of today. There's a fantastic documentary about the Hal Needham/Burt Reynolds friendship on the Smokey & The Bandit 40th Anniversary Blu-ray. It's called "the Bandit" and worth checking out.

Wow, so cool. So cool. I just posted prob a long rant and I've yet to work with my own blood but pretty damn cool to see QT re-innovate film and introduce my cousin with honor. Very cool, passionate and sincere. Had to share to my cousins aunts n uncles who have many memories as my mom in Cali and I should also mention, my late cousin Tina, who didn't become "known" nor did I, but passed long before she could have been and was on her way. I'm so glad wow that ppl know/knew/recognize Hal and his role in film. That he was recognized officially and by at least one that certainly made an imprint enough to introduce him a year before his passing but also someone I'm familiar with. I recall Hal answering the phone and not really knowing who the heck I was and out of the blue, but I'd grown up hearing all the stories and loving film and stunt and all of it, how could I not dial a number of a complete stranger and hopefully not sound creepy. He was quite polite at that time, Hal. An I'm not sure how much relevance he had on so many close and far. Very cool to see this video. All these years later, and for any cousins seeing it via my social media, I'm sure it's cool too. QT doing the intro, for me and anyone that knows me and the mutual addiction to film and film history, wayyyy cool. Wado Quentin. Wado. An if true Brad's character was inspired by my cousin, extra but I did think Death Proof was initially. Going to stop rambling now.

small world, hal is my cousin, I heard about him growing up and my mom and her siblings when they lived back there near Don knotts and how he used to give out peanuts to all the kids (before chevy chase blvd.). One of my first trips down to Cali, I couldn't figure out where I was, saw a trooper on a motorcycle (like that show Chips) and before GPS, pulled out my map and he showed me the way and was able to find the old house to get pics. I've come across QT in various Kevin Bacon style ways over the years and seeing this is pretty f'in cool. Family that was in the biz or on the sidelines to those who raced pro or semi or some of us who just love to and all the comparisons, I'm surprised not ever met him but DAMN COOL QT is honoring my cousin and always a fan of QT's films so wow, I could go on on the similarities and "coincidences" down to Ted Mikels. I love this post. is plenty enough. my aunts/uncles/cousins will all love it thank you to the person that uploaded.

If Burton Leon says you da man, you da man. I have a T shirt with Burt and Hal’s names on it. It is a prized possession. That was awesome to hear by QT, he a da man too.

He was nominated for 3 times for Worst Director at the Razzie Awards and once for Worst Screenplay in 3 consecutive years. Tarantino may be overreacting a bit.
@tommy11384 жыл бұрын
He had hundreds of movie and television stunt coordination under his belt when he directed Smokey & The Bandit, Hooper and Cannonball Run, three classic movies. The Razzie Awards are just good fun, and Stroker Ace was lame, but far from the worst movie that year.
