I remember when Spielberg, Coppola, and George Lucas presented the Oscar to Scorsese. They had to have known the winner beforehand. Cut to 15 years later, when everyone KNEW Chadwick Boseman would win. And then Anthony Hopkins did.
@MrAdamloring1985 Жыл бұрын
They probably did know, because they are all long standing voting members of the academy, so they probably had their ear to the ground on his award probability, and they have all 4 been pals since the early 70’s.

Forest Gump almost made a billion. Pulp Fiction did well!
@khymaaren Жыл бұрын
That "almost billion" is actually $678 Million. Pulp Fiction made $213 Million which is pretty solid with an R rating. But, I think by competition, Spielberg meant professionally, not financially. Neither of their films were financed by them, and they are all filmmakers and not businessmen. Hence the anecdote about the Oscars.

Spielberg was shunned by the Academy for many years. When Spielberg made the obvious best picture with Saving Private Ryan, the Academy gave the Oscar to a movie that few people remember or care about called Shakespeare in Love. Years before, Spielberg made another obvious best picture The Color Purple that lost to a mediocre movie called Out of Africa.
