Its amazing what can be done with a true HiPo computer expert punching the laptop keys. And the guys from Ontario, they were all set up and ready to go, had everything they needed. I'm sure Nick was happy to see that. Well organized to the "N"th degree.

So interesting how you can see the rpm , for both torque and horsepower, remained essentially the same, but adding boost and a nudge on the timing just kept increasing power at the same engine speeds. That torque at so low an RPM is amazing fun for a street car and should actually increase the engine life by lowering the wear factor associated with having to go to extreme rpms to make the power you want. This video really is so enlightening and educational. I would bet that , if they haven't already, they will be beefing up the chassis of that Duster with torque boxes and other specific gussets to handle that power. One other bit of magic is to use a high speed low windage design in the oil pan, assuming they don't already have that as well. Just a beautiful job guys.

I'm usually more a fan of the ~500 horsepower 440 builds Nick does, but it is SO nice to see a stock 440 block taken to this level also! And that thing idles like a modern engine. Just goes to show what careful design and optimization can do. The ability to pull a little timing to reduce the peak torque through software (to keep from overstressing the main saddles and other components) and then bring it back at higher RPM where the torque is inherently lower, allowing those big horsepower numbers without over-stressing anything... that's mind-blowing for an old carburetor and advance springs tuner like me. Love it!
@davelowets
@davelowets Жыл бұрын
That's just a band-aid for a weak block. I'd want ALL the power it's capable of, and would have used a block capable of it. Being able to make the power then crutching it because your hardware can't handle it is asinine. This is exactly why I personally use an aftermarket block for my Oldsmobile motors.
@stevelacker358
@stevelacker358 Жыл бұрын
@@davelowets it’s not a crutch at all, it allows ANY block to make more horsepower than it could if you let it build the corresponding peak torque at a much lower RPM. ANd it’s not just about preventing breakage, it also makes bearings, pistons, rods, and everything from the engine to the rear wheels last longer. Torque management should be in play on any ECM controlled engine IMO.

I love it! It will be quite "interresting" to drive that monster in a light weight car as the Duster. I hope we will see that car in a clip in the future! One thing that I wonder is: since the peak torque was at 3800 where the pull started - did it pull ever better numbers below 3800? I would be fun to see the pull from 3000 - 6300.

Built a few turbo motors had over 800 HP/TQ small blocks but found it was useless on the street and it broke transmissions on the strip. What I ended up with was a mustang with a full cage and a powerglide. I got 9 seconds in the 1/4 mile but my wife said I ruined the car now it was no longer a street car she wanted to ride in. Turbos/blowers are cool but as I get older don't street race anymore too much to lose in life I have gone back to old school big cam and carburetor make 500 HP sounds cool with a big cam. Drive my C-10 pickup has BBC over to car shows sit talk about the old days. I want to recreate the hot rod of the 70's and 80's when 60's cars were cheap and put a big cam and carburetor head out for cruising maybe some street racing on a deserted road.

Over 100 psi on oil pressure? Is that a detriment and possible damage by having it that high? I was told you only need one molecule to float the surfaces and volume is what wicks away the heat. The 2023 Macan runs at 13 psi at idle and I thought that was nutz but was told that is what they wanted. Over 100 seems a bigger risk for pump, clearance blow out and parts failure. Scarey low and scarey high. Wowsa. Great vid. Great people , great Nick.

Air to water is the best these days and in racing you just have your tank in the trunk and before you make a pass you fill the take full of ice that way it brings the air temp down because compressed air makes the air temps go up so the ice water will cool it down and it runs through a rad that is under the supercharger and on top of the intake.

the higher the boost the higher the air temp --there is a thermal barrier where more boost wont make big hp gains because of the high air temp

Yep. The blower will just turn into a hot air pump, and ruin the party.

Oil pressure seems high for a street engine.Gotta love those numbers though.800 ft lbs at 3900, that engine needs to be in a 4wd Ram.

Its a good sign aye Nick when you see that tan rusty color on the sparkplug, it usually happens with a slightly lean efficient burn, and nitrous oxide is being produced, yes a very good sign I say, my motorcycle exhaust was that shade of pink almost, but not now on the fuel available to me 😢

there is only one thing better with the ford 9 inch then the Dana 60 is that the center section comes right out so if you are racing all you have to do is drop the center out and put another center section that is all set up with different gear ratio and put it back in. It's just like the 8 1/4 Chrysler. If you don't need to change ratio's that much then the Dana 60 is great but if you have to change the ratio you have to rip it all apart and reset everything back up

The Dana 60 is too heavy compared to a Ford 9"

You meant to say "like the 8 3/4". Strength advantage of the 9" has a lot to do with pinion being supported at both ends. Dana is heavy and hard to work on. A lot of aftermarket support for the Ford. I wish I had opted for the Ford over the Dana in my Dart.

@@mickangio16 Nah, I was referring to the O.P.'s comparison that the only benefit for the 9", over the Dana 60, is that the "9 has a removable center section". I've had both, and the 60 weighs a bunch more than a 9", and you're definitely correct in the fact that there is a TON more aftermarket support for the ford piece. I have zero issues using a Ford "designed" third member in my Drag cars. I only use aftermarket pieces, so none of the parts ever came out of a ford factory anyway... 🍻

nice job but why fuel injection and a supercharger when a bigger stroker kit and heads would prolly get you to 800hp naturally aspirated
