Laura Faust back before she was making My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic she used to work on this. She stated that the film was going to be an adult film similar to films such as Wizards but then Warner Bros. asked them to make it a family friendly musical as a way to capitalize the Disney Renaissance. She Stated and I quote: *"Warner Bros did not know what they were doing. They didn't care about animation being as an art form as well as entertainment, they wanted profits. If they wanted a bad Disney knock off, they should have talked to Don Bluth on their part. Camelot was planned as an animated feature in the veins of Ralph Bakshi's Wizards, you know something with a PG-13. In the end they didn't even know what to do with it. Nearly everyone I knew that worked on Camelot hated it, and they don't even want to talk about it. Personally, its makes Don Bluth's bad movies in the 90's look good. It was rather stressful since production time was overhauled for us animators to stay at the studio longer to animate the scenes since WB was about to be late for a deadline on the movie. When it was finished it tanked (I myself along with the people who I worked with knew that it was going to bomb). The heads of WB then say "Why did this bomb?", what I said to them was "You made it worst, and turned something good into something nobody wants to look at". They even had to cancel an animated film that a guy by the name of Milton Knight pitched to them. Only because they couldn't picture cartoony animation working out for animated features. Everyone I know thinks a PG-13 animated feature would have been better than a poor Disney knock-off. It still annoys me that the female character looks like Belle while the guy looks like the human version of the beast."*

I actually have this movie and one of my favorites from my childhood. This film also introduced my love for the mythology of Griffins. The Griffin in this film is the best designed one I've ever seen in an animated film being much bigger and fiercer than the Narnian Griffins. I sometimes imagine myself as being this animal: fierce, powerful, and armed to the teeth. The only time they ever made him scary is his introduction and how he blended in with night colors along with his green eyes similar to Maleficent in dragon form and then they suddenly make him into a comedic joke so that he wouldn't be too scary for the kids.
@isaacgray29096 жыл бұрын
It's a sad thing Warner Brothers wasted this movie's potential had they gone what it was intended. It was originally intended to be much darker as it's based on a book, The King's Damsel, which feature mature contents like family abuse and rape. If i recalled, the director or writer never intended to include musicals until they were persuaded by the producers for obvious reasons to compete with Disney. Hence why the majority of the stuff in the film felt forced, and none of the plot resemble the book aside from the same title.

Before they remake this movie, they should fleshed out the story and characters, hired very creative talented people, translated the movie into live action not animated, bring in all cast of recognized celebrities to bring these characters to life and don't put too much pressure making this movie just try their best effort and heart making this movie. I actually like this movie back when I was a little girl. Neither of the genders were brought low to make the other gender look good, and there was lots of comedy in this movie. The world building was extreme. The song “I stand alone” resonates for people who have been wronged in the past and have been scared for it. “If I didn’t have you” is another song about wanting to be alone and follow your own path and not having anyone to hold you back from your dream. I haven’t seen this movie in a long time and I’ll see if I can view this again to actually see if I like it still. Yes, the movie should be remade to fix the problems with them. This could be a good movie if it didn’t copy Disney This could go on my list of bad movies that are my guilty pleasure to watch like Joseph; King of Dreams is another guilty pleasure movie of mine that I would show to friends for a roast session for all the problems that hinder it from being a memorable movie for the right reasons, now it’s an “underrated” movie that I can see why. I’ll try to see if you reviewed that movie already because I’d like you to review that train-wreck of a movie. I’ll rewatch that movie for a more clearer picture of how bad of a movie it is.

Another example of just how bad the production was comes from the supervision animator for Garrett, Chrystal Klabunde. In an article in Animation Magazine, she stated: "All the executives were happily running around and playing executive, getting corner offices-but very few of them had any concept about animation at all, about doing an animated film. It never occurred to anybody at the top that they had to start from the bottom and build that up. The problems were really coming at the inexperience of everyone involved. Those were people from Disney that had the idea that you just said, 'Do it,' and it gets done. It never occurred to them that it got done because Disney had an infrastructure in place, working like clockwork. We didn't have that."

I mean, I thought Garret’s solo I Stand Alone was pretty cool, its just completely pointless in the narrative because he doesn’t really have any qualms of having a traveling companion. Nor does the movie ever explain why he prefers to be alone aside from feeling like an outcast of Camelot. It would’ve been much more interesting if Garret straight up refused to let Kaylee tag along, and frustrated she says she doesn’t need a bodyguard anyway, claiming to be a knight in training or something. But Garret secretly follows her, unable to let her walk into the dangerous and mysterious forest on her own, and spotting her getting near misses multiple times. I find it ironic Kaylee is completely oblivious to the forest creatures constantly trying to eat her the entire movie and having the nerve to say this place isn’t so scary, having a much harder time collecting eggs.

This and the Guy Ritchie movie Legend of the Sword leave me with one question. Why is it so hard to make a good, if not great, King Arthur movie? It has all the elements one would need or want. Adventure, high fantasy, chivalrous heroes, sorcery, romance, tension, brotherhood and so much more. Yet, these days; film makers seem to fail at it more time than I can count. In Quest for Camelot's case, the crew seemed to think Arthurian lore was just a silly little child's story. Ergo, like most people who run children's movies and cartoons. They chose to make it as dumb as possible, with little effort. Thinking that "dumb kids will watch anything, these days." With Legend of the Sword, the creators should've utilized films like Knights of the Round Table or Excalibur for inspiration on how to make their movie. But instead, they thought the legend was "too clean" or "not that interesting." So, they sought out to make it gritty and "realistic." I could do a better job at making a movie than these butt clowns

Speaking of Quest for Camelot, there is something that i really wanted to talk about it, guys. as you may know, that in 2014, I came up with the idea of a fully epic fantasy animated film. However, it will not be a musical instead it will be dark and drama and does have elements like Narnia and Hobbit movies where it takes place in Medieval time era but with dragons, trolls, unicorns, mythical animals, giant beautiful plants and trees kinda like Avatar and inspired and influence works of Hayao Miyazaki. It will be aimed towards kids, teens, adult and family audience. The movie has a strong message of environmental theme nature and society where humans and animals live in peace there is no racism or mean spirited in our world. I wanted to be a amazing animated film with great story, great characters, beautiful breathtaking animation, amazing soundtrack and strong morals. It will have a sequel if the movie is critically acclaimed and become a box office success a sequel everyone ask for and that everyone loves.

I think the conflict for the two-headed dragon is interesting, but that would've worked better as just part of a short. And if WB made it, they could've given it a Looney Tunes flair. As for the movie itself, I only saw it online once years ago and from what I remember, it was okay. It's still a shame that executive meddling got in the way (as usual) and stripped away a lot of its potential. Nonetheless, some of the designs like the environments, mythical creatures, and weapon-soldiers still look awesome, and most of the songs are pleasant.

Honestly, I would say 7 or 7.5/10 on this film at least for me personally. It has it’s problems, yes. Still, at least it’s better than atrocities like The Black Cauldron, Home On The Range, or especially Chicken Little for that matter. Nevertheless, I respect your opinion. Anyway, looking forward to An American Tail!

Veggiekid 2003 it did well, yet what South Park got was more of a parody of what the animated films of the 90s got. A parody of the affectionate kind.

I thought The Pagemaster and Cats Don't Dance were produced by the same group, but I was wrong. Also Lauren Faust worked on this and she hates it. Anyway, An American Tale is next! I saw it a few months ago and it is great. Dark movie, but still well done despite a few hiccups. I also was expecting Thumbelina for the next Don Bluth movie you review to bid away his bad films, but AAT works too.
@sunspotmill12916 жыл бұрын
Yeah, apparently The Pagemaster, Cats Don't Dance, and Tom and Jerry: The Movie were all made under Turner Feature Animation, but got distributed by Warner Bros. However, Warner Bros. Animation are now current owners of those movies too. So technically speaking...

9:11) Isn't that the idea behind craziness? You can't predict the motives of a madman thus making them more dangerous. I've dealt with lunatics before where their personalities can switch between "hey how's it goin?" "I will beat your punk ass if you don't move the fuck aside!" and "Why are you so mean to me whenever I snap at you?" in a matter of five minutes. The kind of 60 year old toddlers who are happy and willing to break shit and scream at full volume when things don't go their way DIRECTLY before giggling like a school girl at at their own bad jokes. And its *always* over the most trivial crap. Like this one guy threw a plate full of food at someone because he didn't get some bread with his meal. Yeah, it was THAT fucking bad.

I actually really loved this movie as a kid. I thought Garret was a badass, there were some creative designs and some of the songs were all right. But as a grown man I will gladly admit that this movie is loaded with problems. Kayley is a pretty bland protagonist, the humour is often painfully forced and Rubber, while clearly supposed to be intimidating and insane, often comes as across as unintentionally goofy.

Actually they are few things that do explain. The Forest being able to move and fly and such is that it was enchanted. Because It was just enchanted, Bladebeak turned good when he freed Kayley in the Climax, because he was her pet chicken on the farm, also it was more cocusing that he was helping Ruber at all, he wasn't hired or anything like any of Ruber's other henchman, he also turn good when he got to see his wife in Ruber's wagon. Kayley and Garrett put Ruber back in the stone with Excalibur, because it was the only way to defeat him. Garrett secondary lead was already blind from a horse kick to the face and a fire years earlier the sword isn't the holy grail it can't heal people it being returned just actives some old magic to dispell all curses and magic around the sword.
