I work as a Meta Brand Influencer at one of the Best Buy stores in Ohio, and I've had the chance to use the Pro for about a week. Your self correction is correct, though, the cover is definitely for the front of the headset. The controllers are backward compatible with the Quest 2. The increase in clarity is due to the stacked pancake lenses, local dimming, and some other features that all add up to a much clearer display.

I like that they removed the battery from the front of the headset and moved it to the back of the head. Helps balance out the weight. I like that the IDP has moved back to non-stepped (?) like it was on the Quest v1. The rest of the features are likely where the extra thousand dollars goes, so I'm not hopeful they'll make it into the Quest 3.

when following the leaks published by SadlyItsBradley (he is usually very reliable and on point with his sources and predictions) Quest 3 will use the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2, which is 100% more powerful than Gen 1 (XR2+ Gen 1 in Quest Pro is basically the same as the one in Q2 but 50% mire powerful thanks to spreading it out and allowing better thermals thus higher ceiling it can be pushed to) it will also have color pass through for mixed reality but current CAD files suggest that Q3 sadly won't have eye and face tracking to keep costs down

Been playing with the Pro for a few hours and I gotta say I’ve changed my mind and I’m thinking of keeping it. Wish it was higher resolution but even not being..the optics are so much clearer larger and better in every way it is a decent upgrade if you are a VR enthusiast who can justify the price. @@CompositingAcademy Quite a bit! Especlly up close. I’m selling Varjo Aero and keeping the Quest Pro. The Pros lenses are just as good or better than that of the Aero! That’s how good the optics are. Don’t get me wrong it’s still Quest 2 resolution but it’s much more enjoyable on the Pro! That and despite no advertise FOV improvement it definitely has much better FOV. The Quest 2 feels claustrophobic in comparison…on my head at least.😊

It only creates new virtual flatscreen monitors. thats what it was designed for. for that purpose, it cannot be beaten. Virtual desktop is made for vr gaming, not flatscreen gaming. and for that purpose, virtual desktop cannot be beaten. cos it was made for it. they are 2 very, very different softwares.

But I don't own a Quest 2, and want a new wireless-capable PCVR headset with upgraded ergonomics + don't want to buy a two year old headset.

My wishlist for Quest 3: 1. Smooth IDP sliding instead of stepped 2. Battery on the back as well as having the weight rest on your forehead 3. Of course, higher performance and visual quality 4. As someone who still uses the old Quest 1, I am really considering just straight upgrading to this instead of a Quest 2 because of the comfort and quality jump that it seems like that would have. The different design, thinner front part (definitely would be appreciated over the 5 point brick of the quest 1 lol) and weight balance due to the battery being on the back are definitely making me consider.

There's a noticeable quality jump from Q1 to Q2. I have both and I use the Q1 to play local multiplayer with my friend who doesn't have a device. Because I switch between devices often, I'm constantly reminded of how outdated the Q1 feels compared to the Q2. I imagine going from Q1 to Pro would be incredible.

They are "better" in terms of tracking to be sure but keep in mind battery life will be VERY bad because of the extra power draw I would expect 1.5 - 2 hours tops of battery each.

I still thing the PSVR2 controllers will be the very best on the market. The quest pro has a resolution of 1920x1800 per eye, and the quest 2 has 1920x1832 per eye, so the 'lower' resolution really doesn't matter. IMO pixel density should be the main resolution specification for displays. It tells you much more about the quality of the image than pure pixel dimensions.

Im curious about the lens material, glass or plastic. pico 4 pancakes are plastic, which have been underwhelming to me for clarity. PSVR lenses are glass and I use them on quest and the clarity is stunning. Would you say the lens clarity is stunning, like looking through a pane of glass, or just reasonably clear, with glare and fuzzy text like the pico. This may have been worth it if they had bumped the res to 2160 and had a display port

I'm only interested in full immersion gaming, but I have 55 IPD. Quest 2 and Pico 4 both don't offer 55 IPD. I also enjoy the clarity. Not being able to read easily in Zenith gave me such bad headaches that I stopped playing. I'm waiting to see if there are black Friday/cyber Monday deals.

The biggest thing I want to see on a quest 3 is it being as small and lightweight as possible, I love my quest, but it that slight bit of extra strain on my neck makes my back start to ache after an hour or so of playtime. The pro looks like a massive step in the right direction with the pancake lenses, but I really wanna reach a point where we have VR goggles/glasses instead of VR headsets

i think this is a missed opportunity, they have a great product, and irresistable, but the pricing is major let down. and they're targetting the enterprise rather than the consumer, they have their best moment to be the first to hit the market, and get all of the marketshare, instead, they shot themself in the foot. they throw away once in a lifetime opportunities. at this rate, it'll be very hard for them to get a major adoption. they should pray that Apple won't announce their AR glasses anytime soon, or else they would be decimated by them.

You should do quest 2 vs quest pro gameplay comparison and you should try the most laggy quest 2 games on both headsets to see the real hardware improvement over the last 3 years

Medal of Honor would be a good choice as you can change the resolution in the game settings. The higher settings completely lag on Q2.

I know you can set up custom lens to avoid wearing glasses, but I want to be able to adjust natively on the set to different folks using the device. Once this feature becomes part of the setup, I think I’ll join the VR community. I’ll just wait in the meantime- best! -😊

I’m considering getting the pro controllers alone due to the advanced tracking, usally I only play Pavlov and use a 3D printed magnetic stock, but it messes with the tracking a lot. But once someone comes up with an idea to attach these controllers to a stock, they’re mine

If I can keep the same experience, I have no reason to upgrade to similar headset from a different company. I would rather upgrade to next Meta headset which would allow me the same experience I had but better. This is the reason I stay on iPhones for almost 7 years now.
