I just moved from Nikon FF with the 3 f/2.8 Pro zooms to an Olympus E-M1 and I couldn't be happier. My Nikon kit was staying at home 95% of the time. My E-M1 is ALWAYS with me and it is a joy to use.

I use my Canon 700D for everything, as it was my first camera, but I've bought a dongle for my phone to put the sd card in when on the go. A slight bit less convenient than WiFi maybe, but I was still first to upload my wedding images for the family last week. I wouldn't focus too much on WiFi is what I'm saying, there are other options for on the go as well ;)

If you're open to using micro four thirds cameras the lumix LX100 is superb. shoots crazy crisp 4k videos too. I came from an XT-1 and then an XT-10, but it was never really small enough for me to bring everywhere. Fuji also spoiled me with a lot of dials and the LX100 didn't fall short in that regard.

im really in the same Position as you. I need my camera for the exact same reasons. AND I also have a 6D. I just got a Fuji x70 a few months ago that I really love. its not the best in low light but its easy to carry with you and doesn't get in the way. but its more like a sidecam for the 6D than a replacement. I really love my 6D and kinda can't get over selling it. im looking forward to see your thoughtprocess in this series. nice to see you back here ;)

you can try the Fuji XT series esp. the XT2 or XT1 :)

I would say the Fuji X-Pro2 & X-T2, Sony A7 series, and Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mk2 aren't necessarily big, but they are at the larger size end of their respective model lines. And, if you add fast glass, especially for FF like the A7 series, then the size could ramp up quite fast. With Fuji, you have the X-E2(S) and X-T10 if you wanted to go smaller, they're no slouch for speed, but the fastest and more accurate AF including generally faster operation of the camera you will find with the lastest X-Pro2 & X-T2 for now. The Fuji X70 with the wide angle converter would give you a nice compact 24mm (equiv.) focal length. Sony A7, you probably will want to go with the Mk2 versions of any of them because of the better AF and IBIS.. and they're generally faster than the first gen and not as loud. I would say you could possibly get away with using the Sony RX100 Mk4 for smallest pocketable camera from Sony. The A6300 is smaller, but the APS-C line of glass kind of sucks. Fast glass for FF on even the A7's can be quite large.. they could be as larger, if not larger, than the camera body itself. If you still have some rangefinder glass from your Leica and Voigtlander film cameras, they could be adapted and keep system as small as possible, but they would only be manual focusing. The OM-D E-M1 Mk2 is going to be nice, but it won't be out till probably early next year at the earliest. If you don't need all the fancy features the E-M1 Mk2 offers, the OM-D E-M5 Mk2 or E-M10 Mk2 could work just as well and be as small as possible. I fancy the Pen-F myself. And, you have nice 24mm (equiv.) options such as the Olympus 12mm f/2 and the new Panasonic-Leica 12mm F/1.4 Summilux. The new Canon EOS M5 looks promising as far as new Canon mirrorless is concerned.. you could use your existing Canon glass as well with an adapater, or get a native mount lens(es) for the M5. If you're really interested in M43 and want to consider video a bonus, currently, you're best served staying with a Panasonic. Practically all of them offer 4k video and their IQ and performance is about as good as Olympus, if not better for video in particular. Anything within at least the last year or two, you will have no issues with having wifi to connect to your phone, so that particular aspect should be the least of your concerns, it will be on all cameras. Good luck on your quest.

Thanks for the reply! Those are all great points. I think the m43 format is interesting because I can probably go Olympus for photo and eventually a GH5 for video. It'd make a nice cohesive kit. One thing I do what to check out is the new Fuji MF camera. I've always wanted to dive into even bigger formats, but price has always been an obstacle. Thanks again for your helpful reply!

I had the same issue that you are having. I own a Nikon D3100 and loved it, I used it all the time but i started to use my iPhone over it. long story short i bought a Sony NEX-5r, its a small compact Sony mirrorless camera that provides just as good or better quality then the nikon. but for you I would recommend a Sony a6000

Also consider the Panasonic Gx8. Weather sealed, shoots 4K, and you have access to all the lenses made for the Micro 4/3 system. I shoot with both the Olympus and Panasonic systems but the Gx8 is my travel and street shooting camera.......Good Luck!!!

I have a fuji xe2s and a x100t next to my dslr (for big prints) I would recommend those except for the meager sensor size (16mpx). As they are my second and 3rd camera its not an issue. In that regard maybe the xt2 or xpro2 are better options (24mpx). They look inconspicuous, are pretty light and with the right lenses can almost fit your pocket. All these have wifi.

I have the Sony A7II and Fuji X-T10. They're wonderful. I've found I take the X-T10 out more. Fuji system has become a lot faster which makes me interested in the Pro2. I think it fits my lifestyle more. We almost have the same list. The O-MD is awesome too. Yeah, I have G.A.S. now. lol.

Sony A6500 is interesting for a travel point of view... and with adapters can use your canon glass....tho for my money the A7Rii is probably still the top choice... imho... would be interested to see what you decide tho

Xt2, xpro2, or wait for the 6dmkii if you're looking for portability and high quality. To be honest, your 6D is already giving you everything you need. Just get a new lens.

I had the Fujifilm X100S and I loved the colors! Unfortunately, I couldn't get along with the speed/behavior of the AF. I've heard that the X100T is a lot better in that regard!

If the X100S was anything like the X-Pro1 I can understand. They where pretty slow. You're right, the X100T is even faster than the 6D with a 24-70 f/2 or a 24-105 f4 or, in fact, any of the lenses I've used on it, especially if you use the X100T in OVF mode.

I f your looking for a great deal..Adorama has the olympus em1 on sale with the pro 12-40 2.8 lens for $1299.. thats insane ..your basically getting the camera for $500 ...THE LENS ALONE IS $899... Olympus is also coming out with a great new all purpose lens 12-100 f4..basically a 24-200 in full frame equivalent. ... good luck finding a new camera and have fun testing...

Hey Cam. I am looking for my first camera. I have been using my Dad's T4i for 3 years. I shoot mostly landscape and sometime portrait. Also wanting to get into video. I want a compact camera so p&s maybe or should i get MFT and grow in that system. If so which MFT camera is compact enough to be able to put in jacket pocket? higher than 16mp is a must for me cuz crop a lot. Thanks!

If convenience is what you want with decent IQ, I guess you have to consider PEN EPL 8 or Panasonic GX8 or GX80/85 with 4k video, Nikon DL 18-50 mm or sony RX100 M4. All these gear are all my options.

yeah man, I feel your excitement for the Pentax 645 range, although them being so bulky :) In terms of convenience i'd go for the Fuji system, in terms of sensors and the L lenses I'd prefer the Canon DSLRs and if money was had no limit I'd by the new Leica M (Typ 262).

Get the GH5 with metabones next year. If you want to start now get the Olympus. Based on your needs, don't look at the others. Or go down to the G7 or GX85 if you want to start for even less money.

X-T2 + XF 16mm f1.4 WR. That will give 24mm plus weather sealing. I don't think it'll be a good lens for video though, its a bit noisy.

I use Sony A6000 for portable. But if a price not a big deal so Sony A7 is the best choice in my opinion. For video you can use an iphone, the quality is quite good. But it needs a gimbal. x-t2 is just a beast.. fuji just put out a monster of a camera on a market.. i dont think olympus can hold on.. but olympus has such nice features like touchscreen and ibis. but lenses are just not worth the money. sony has zeiss, but like the canon pretty big..

I could imagine a big DSLR gets stolen fairy easy in PH. My wife always forces me to not take it at least lol. I found that fuji draws less attention with its classic look. And they make very good cameras.

@BartRos1980
@BartRos1980 8 жыл бұрын
I havent anything stolen either. Its my wife that worries ^^ - I think you would do well with the last generation of fuji Cameras, In the end It depends on what type of photography you want to do. Though with a smaller camera, that might also change. I find that fuji works well for me for streetphotography, general family snaps and landscaping in area's where I would not want to drag a heavy tripod and DSLR.
