Quest to get on the Alone Show (Rich Fortney)

Күн бұрын

This video is the opener for the channel that I am hoping will help me get a chance to get on the Alone Show. This video goes over me using a ferro rod to make fire in inclement weather. It also goes over an axe safety tip and using fat wood and a feather stick to help with making it. It will also describe tips on how to use the ferro rod. Shows how difficult it is to do when using wet wood.

This is awesome, Rich. I love the shelter. Noone will say anything about you making the same kind of shelter as someone else. Hell there are only so many kinds of shelter lol and we as a species learn from each other. I also love the log splitting. And i think everyone should experience true darkness from time to time. It will remind us of where we came from. Great work my friend! I cant wait for day 5.

Hello Mikey, I appreciate you saying that about the shelters. I am going to try to get back down there the middle of this month to finish it. Day 5 i get a bit more done, but man was I hungry. LOL I forgot how much your belly growls when you go through that. I also picked up a poplar and oak log to take with me to go over that again as well.

@QuesttogetontheAloneShow-qq3cz I can't wait to see it. Splitting boards from logs can be pretty challenging with minimal gear. And a pain in the butt if the grain runs off lol.

I spent a month in the Bighorn mountains of Wyoming alone. There is a jeep park out their with trails everywhere marked like ski runs. Easy to most difficult. The difficult ones you have to have a front wench for. You get the maps at the ranger offices. After 3 weeks I could hear people 3 valleys away and smell them 5 valleys away. It made me wonder how we ever beat the Native Americans. I never feared the animals. They don't lie, so I always knew what was on their mind. Also they identify food with their noses so don't smell like food.

In wet camping I get my firewood from the standing dead stuff. It's usually work ably dry, unless it's spongy. Tie a rock on a rope to get a pull down. Don't hit yourself in the head like I never did. Also I choose pull downs that are smaller than 4 inches saves on splitting. I was taught laziness as a virtue. Just think the wheel wouldn't exist if some lazy cuse didn't want to do it easier.

Thanks for watching and the advice. Standing poplar is great for that as you said. Also, I like the idea of the rock and pulling down dead standing wood. I appreciate that. Not being lazy with doing that your just conserving calories.
