My god I was just reminiscing how much I miss my father and how we were so connected to the Metropolitan opera house. If all the performances we saw together….and there were some great ones….the ver best was seeing Kraus on Saturday 11/12/94 , which turned out to be his final performance. I will never forget that Gavanelli was the baritone and how Alfredo at almost 67 still possessed the lyric voice required to sing Il Duca…..years later, both of us lovers of Gigli….and Caruso, Ruffo, de Muro, Tamagno etc….we regarded that night as our favorite performance…..so I google Kraus Question o Quella Live and the very first entry thst comes up is something from 1994 that looks like what I remember him looking like in stage…..could this be a recording from that night!?!?! For as it turned out, it was Kraus’ last performance of the roll at the Met….a role that he sang faithfully for decades. Does anyone know if this is his final performance at the Met….11/12/94? In either case it’s unbelievable that his lyric ability to sing this role NEVER left him…..still very few tenors can claim that achievement. Even Caruso can not…..his voice was just so beautiful, that it didn’t much matter that it was as thick as an ocean by the time he was was so n his mid thirties!!!!! But bravo Alfredo for NEVER pushing your voice into roles that were too big…..it allowed you to sing this role within days just shy of your 67th birthday and to still have the lightness and agility required. My god, this very well could be the performance that I was remembering tonight…..the one that both my father and I agreed was the greatest and most touching one we ever attended at The Met. And if it wasn’t, I’m so happy to hear a live recording of what he sounded like in that role from the same year at 66. It was truly a magical night and one that I wish I could relive!!!!!!

Terrible sound, but even like that it gives full impressoin of great performance by singers and what a great orchestra there is.
