👏👏👏 Nate, what you put out in the world, you get back, if you're paying attention and blessed. What you choose to bring to the screen; waterways, landscape, rocks, and perspective, always touches my soul. Thank you 🙏

First time I saw elk here in northern CA, 2 yrs ago I was mesmerized lol. City kid discovering animal life. Really marvelous BIG animals. So cool.

I love how they just step over our fences and roads and ignore all the silly borders, they just see the valleys and the mountains not the individual plots , almost free still.

Are these Tule Elk ? Wonderful...
@snuugumz3 жыл бұрын
These are indeed. They’re the ‘little’ elk. And they are freakin’ enormous. But then, if you travel to, say, Utah, you’ll see the Roosevelt elk. Huge.

This is when they shed their antlers. They may be trying to help each other out with the shedding. I would love to pick up the sheds to make flintknapping tools.

so it was falling off , cool ! they did see more like helping each other than competing , thank you !

Wow some nice sized Bulls in that bunch. They should be shedding the antlers soon. Looks like the whole herd still needs to shed out the winter hide too. Those two young ones must be trying to loosen them up by sparring with each other. Always like watching elk when it isn't hunting season they are just more calm. Thanks for sharing the sight of the elk herd.

Great video, The sheds are great, I use any horn for canes top of walking sticks,pipes and knives.I give them away to where God directs. Alot of satisfaction. Really like your videos.

I love carving fresh antler, and then the way it glosses and ambers up with age, I made some of my most beautiful things out of " American ivory "

If this is the Shamrock Ranch bunch on the eastern side of the 101, that is all private property. However, the herd has grown so much that small bands of maybe five cows and one big bull will decide to mosey across the highway and onto the properties at the intersection of Steele Lane on the west side and Davidson Lane on the east side of the 101. But be forewarned: like most of their smaller cousins, the deer, they are largely active in the daytime, but the dead of night seems their preferred time to pack up and split. And when i tell you they don’t give a f&ck if you are driving straight at them, i am not exaggerating. They will stop and just throw you all KINDS of stink-eye. When you see them up close, you realize just how puny we mere mortals be. A good friend of mine lives on the edge of the ranch and we used to go out and listen to the bulls ‘bugling’. It is second only to wolves howling for nature’s greatest, most haunting sounds ever. ALSO: people are tempted, especially when they see calves at mamas’ sides, to get as close as possible for pics. PLEASE, for the safety of all present, STAY OUTSIDE OF THE FENCES. These are enormous wild animals who are, for most of the year, mellow. Woe be unto him or her that gets too close to the young’uns. Stay safe, stay alive!!

ive seen a small deer kick a person to the ground ( my mom) a doe can front kick you off your feet before you can react, and have been around, and we travel up into moose country where they kill more people than the bears, I was shooting from the lane , they were perfectly waiting for me on my pass by. hoping the festival will return soon, the valley still looks small and beautiful, hope they never fill it with grapes .

the Ca herds seem to be either well protected or well respected, I imagine once there were millions and this is the last few groups , beautiful and free . may they always be here.

They primarily live on a huge, privately owned ranch whose owners, i believe, would entertain licensed paying hunters. Not sure if that’s the case anymore. Rumour has it the ranch was purchased by some Asian gentlemen who decided to explore their new investment aaaand had to be rescued when they became hopelessly turned around and lost. Tsk-tsk...city folk. 😎😂
