Back in the day, the PCE was the console that kick started the grey import scene here, just look in game mags (C+VG, Mean Machines etc) from the late 80's & you will see loads of companies were importing & RGB'ing them, I'd say PCE is far more known for Shoot 'em ups than RPG's.

@w4lsh NEC sponsored Everton back in the days and used to make fax machines back then , who knows why they didn't bother to properly release the console in Europe at the time.

I prefer the Duo because it is cheaper, was a mainstream console in Japan, has Street Fighter II' and some impressive Neo Geo fighting game ports in addition to having a bigger software library in general. The Neo Geo is a more niche format for wealthy arcade pursuits/snobs.

I like both but I've not played PC Engine as much yet. I think I just need to find the right games. I have street fighter 2 for it but I'm after more games that were not as common on mega drives and SNES, so feel more unique to the PCE

@@RetroSix Try Mr. Heli, St. Dragon, Gate of Thunder, Gunhed/Blazing Lazers, Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, Beyond Shadowgate, Parasol Stars and Batman. Turbo Views on KZbin is a great resource on TurboGrafx games.

PC Engine was the king for Shmups. I remember Neo Geo carts being sold in London for £199 in the early 90's. Adjusted for inflation would be about £535 today. Arcade machines were always the best platform back in the day from the early 80's til the mid 90's with the arrival of the fifth generation of consoles.

Neo Geo AES please, we’ve had one since 1992 and love it. The PC Engine is also great too

PC Engine all day, it has a far broader library of games and with an ARCADE Card and CD Drive you can play Art of Fighting, World Heroes 2 and Fatal Fury Special, and it's got a great version of Street Fighter II.

They both excel at different types of games. The PC engine wins hands down at horizontal scrolling shoot-em-ups, whilst the neo-geo seems to have a lot of fighting games that it does as good as an arcade machine. But, I prefer the PC engine because it is an 8-bit machine that out does a lot of 16-bit machines. Just compare R.Type on the PC engine verses R.Type on the Atari ST.

I have played both via emulation, for me I would say the AES would be my choice, could spend ages just playing bowling, turf masters and metal slug. Would deffo get it modded for uni bios and hd output and usb c power. If however the PC engine was the TurboGrafx (with fixed caps) I'd probably choose that

Metal slug I started playing again recently on Neo Geo. Absolutely unbeatable for true arcade experience

PC Engine is brilliant, but an arcade machine is better.
