Follow up....thanks, questions and answers from Talky talk talk.
I'm going to make a weekly video segment a feature of my channel....this one isn't organized and structured yet but iv'e got an idea now about the kind of structure that it needs.

I like your pathfinder. I think that I’ve found your channel because I’ve been looking at everything I can find about long steps. Right now that is the boat I’m planning to build. Someday.

My boatbuilding project is a lot clearer and in a lot more detail in my written/photographed blog on Wordpress. Towards the end I was convinced I should have built a LongSteps.....did quite a long post about the design

I agree with your conclusion about reading vs watching video. Personally I enjoy the video format much more than reading text and when I have a few spare minutes watch my favourite KZbin channels on the TV rather than just a mobile devise. Keep up the good work.

It only took me about 5 years to be able to write a reasonably clear and cohesive blog post (only on a good day mind you) and i'm so new to video that i'm having to learn even the basics from the ground up. I think ultimately video will be more satisfying but there are lots more things to get right.

Thank you for your videos! I really appreciate them, since I'm dyslexic and it makes it a lot easier to learn. There aren't a lot of small boat channels that go into the details like you do, so the more the merrier 😁. As a new sailor to small sailboats, i always learn so much from those who have far more knowledge and experience. And as someone who is getting ready to build my own JW boat, seeing what youve done and hearing your thoughts on details and plannings, is very helpful. Also helps make it feel less daunting.

Building a boat does seem daunting but it's basically a series of small tasks and problems - if you get to a sticking point then just throw a question on John's page and someone will help out - they're a nice bunch.

My habit these days is to watch content on KZbin etc rather than reading. And i also get that it can be very technology demanding to produce. When i am looking for 'step by step' instructions, data, or specifications then a written piece with visuals is my go to. For me the content is much more important than the polish or professional presentation. As an aside i appreciated your sharing your experience around the lock down period and how it led you to this place. Regards Michael

You're very welcome Steve. Regular Vlogs will be great but I'll still read the blog if you write them. As you mentioned the visuals, the photos you included were always a high-point for me on your sailing posts. I think I commented before that you're the Peter Ustinov of sailing chat ;-)

It would be interesting to compare against Welsford's latest design with Howard Rice - Scallywag. As you mention Southern Cross. Also you highlight size in terms of storage and manoeuvrability on land, which is why a SCAMP appeals, but a bit more shelter also appeals, like your build or the CLC design. Welsford describes Scallywag as SCAMP's bigger sister in that respect. Although, I don't think he and Rice are fully revealing the design before July 2024.

Longsteps would have been a better fit for my project but would cause me even more problems moving and turning it in the drive, right now I have a horrible feeling that I may have lost interest completely and what I would really like is a very small, simple and cheap boat to go out in the river with and just have simple bivouacs.

I haven't seen the drawings for scallywag yet and i'm not really in the builders forum/scene either so i'm not in the know either. As it happens rowing is a big part of the deal with me and the Pathfinder is too big, heavy and has too large a wetted surface area. I think JW said something about the hydrodynamics for SCAMP being poor for rowing.

I hope the video makes a lot more sense to more viewers when I put out the written blog post - i'm working on that one right now and generally i'm a better writer than I am a videographer.
