Wow so powerful. Many answers spoke to me especially the one about forgiving an abuser. I've struggled for so long about this with a physically and emotionally abusive mother who professes to be a devout Christian but has a wicked heart and when I told her I forgave her, all hell broke loose, she flew into a rage and almost beat me to death. Subsequently I've questioned God why He's allowed her to behave that way as a Christian as it's confusing my generation and her grandkids, particularly in the last couple of weeks after I've discussed end times prophecies with her and she outrightly rebuked me citing she has attended classes on Revelation and therefore knows better than me that Christians will all go through 7y tribulation and that rapture is rubbish. I don't know why she sees it that way when it is clear to me rapture is pretrib and we should all stay sober, watch and pray, as not to remain in darkness for Him to come as a thief in the night. The Holy Spirit has been trying to convince me to leave it to God to deal with her, for we won't know if she would change her ways and repent at the last moment, and that if raptured, we would meet and I can't have this bitterness there in heaven... but I have been struggling to wrap my head around this for so long. It is hard to forgive as she's continually tormenting me almost daily and posing a real challenge. Your answer just hit home and thank you.

I am quite convinced that the only way to get the best out of the Word of God is to try to read it through the eyes and understanding of those who wrote it. By this I mean the Hebrews/Jewish eyes. After all, it's a Hebrew/Jewish collection of writings and not something born of Western theology. The "tools" I try to use are these, based upon the "initials" PaRDeS. To wit; P = P'shat = Simple, literal textual meanings. R = Remez = Hint(s)are there underlying ideas or thoughts present? D = Drash = Search, homilitic, the art of preaching (teaching) writing sermons (teachings). S = Sod = Secret are there hidden meanings here, I liken this to a very big, big sign which says "get the pick and shovel out here lad, there's something here that ain't too obvious". The parting words of Jesus are very interesting, he promised to "send the Holy Spirit who would remind us of all the things that He said". If we don't bother to read, mull over, consider (meditate) on His Word, and don't forget that He is the JHVH/Adonai of the OT, (so this includes the OT which one of the speakers stated that!) if you don't see this then you haven't considered His responses and challenges to the Pharisees and why they got "hopping mad" at Him! They understood only too well! Anyway, like it or lump it I thought that I would chip in my own twopenneth worth! God Bless and crack on guys, yas doing a grand job!

Younger Jimmy was very disrespectful to wiser Mr. Jimmy. I don't think it's funny to throw jabs at your elders! Know your place and keep your "comedy act" off the pulpit.
