I think for helping second lang learners the best way is to use the vernacular to help build a bridge to English. Also, using stories that pique their interest would be a great way to pull them into learning a new language. Grammar can always be polished later one. For the rebellious student, in my experience, it is better not to be provoked by them; keep calm and keep teaching. The next thing one can do is to reward or compliment students who are studying and learning so that they feel like the odd one out for not receiving compliments. This reverse psychology almost always works. But you tell me...

The answers are great. But for the REBELLIOUS STUDENTS, my answer was : To understand & know the child better. There must be a good strong reason for him or her to create chaos, or hate the teacher or may be hate the subject. Trying to find out what could be the reason & be friendly with them even they don't cooperate. After a certain point the student will most definitely understand & respect the teacher, classroom ethics & everything. 😊
