RN here. Almost every woman poops while in labor, even if they don’t eat. I have been to 100’s of births and I’d say it more rare to not poop. It doesn’t get on your baby though. The l&d nurse will clean it and not say anything to the mom.

Not necessarily if your Anus tears to your birth canal you can poop on the child... and most other cultures don't give birth laying on thier back they do it squatting so sometimes poop gets on the child's head or back. And labor is easier and faster sqatting.

They don’t have you eat because if u have to have an emergency there is always a risk of aspiration. (Throwing up and inhaling vomit into your lungs) if you have to be intubated but i find it redic that they expect u to put your body through all that stress with no fuel. I don’t agree with it and it’s not like they won’t do the csection if u do eat.. if u have to have the emergency C-section they are going to do it. So in the end of the day speak up and do what’s best for you drs don’t know it all.

Please explain to Ariana, that with an epidural they don’t leave the needle in, they leave a tiny tube, that is inserted by the needle, so they can top the epidural up, if it wears off. I have 4 children and only had an epidural with my third child. I can honestly say I preferred childbirth without the epidural, because like Melinda said, you can’t feel how hard you are pushing, so it’s like you are not in control. Yes Labour is hard, physical work, but clearly not so hard it would put you off doing it again, otherwise the human population would soon die out. All my labours were different, but as soon as you hold that child in your arms, the physical pain, becomes a distant memory and the joy that the child brings far out ways the physical pain of the Labour.
