This how I dm for my two kids when we play DnD. Just rolling the D20. I roll a D20 for combat and they need to roll higher then me in order to do damage to creatures if they roll less then they can combine every ones roll to match or get a higher number to beat the dm roll but combine roll only do minimum damage. This is also how I let them cross a situation like a wet log or rope bridge. Even when they need to reach and open for something, sneaking past or setting off traps. I find out this is a much easier way to introduce young kids to DnD with out all the rules, and advantages and Disadvantages. Keeping it simple will encourage them to learn more about dungeons and dragons. We did 3 one shots in candlekeep mysteries only with a D20. Thanks for the great video. 👍

I know this is an old comment I am replying to. I got this game for it's simplicity but even with this I will throw stuff in to keep the game alive as you did. My son's hero was about to die, I added in a little part about a bright light appearing , got him to roll a d10, he rolled a 3 and I told him the Gods had performed a miracle and healed him 3 hit points.

Owlbears are like giant anteaters, kind of odd and cute looking until they decide to slice you open with their terrifying massive claws.

I died to an Owlbear once and it was bs of how good of the roll the DM gives to the monster.

My Daughter is 4 and loves it, two of her friends are 5 and one is 8 and they loved playing as a team while I was playing the DM, I would recommend this game to anyone, so great seeing thrm all using their imagination and getting really exited over throwing dice.

Fun!. Wife has never played D&D. She likes this kind of thing though. I have not played D&D since the 1980s. Trying to find a game we can play together. Going off to buy this game now, our 1st, and see how it goes! Thanks for the nice video.

Tbh I thought this was a great idea, my Daughter is only 4 so full d&d was a bit much but she got along with this system just fine. . I found most kids can pick I up from 5+ as long as they can read relatively well, being the DM does mean I cam help them with some words they don't understand so it's an amazing educational game. . Its not only teaching reading but it's helping improve their communication skills, imagination and ability to cooperate as a team, I can't recommend it enough for young people interested in role-playing or just tabletop skirmish games.

Not sure if the rule book has been updated, but in the copy I just purchased it states that only one item can be used per attack - "A hero may use multiple item cards during combat, but they may only use one item card each time they attack or are attacked." Should make it a little more interesting since you can't stack all the items at once which seemed overpowered.
@QuestsAndChaos2 жыл бұрын
I believe that is correct.

See I was watching this and thinking "why not make scenario cards to modify the miniboss / boss creatures?". Meaning make a few cards to bolster the damage output of the boss by 1 (or doubled) or and a +1 to +3 counter to every roll the monster/creature makes. This is a simple more interesting way to make the game harder for adults as well. EDIT: You would have to randomly choose the Affix prior to a basic monster / boss or once you enter the tile. Then you can take it one step further and keep the affix for the remainder or mulligan for a new affix.

Honestly I had idea to use MTG cards form Adventures From the Forgotten Realms and Commander Legends: Battle for the Baldur's Gate.

Just played with my 7 and 9 year old tonight...not a bad time. Kids enjoyed the roleplay. I'd probably just as soon run a kid friendly 5e adventure...but this is no prep and very little learning curve. Not bad. PS: You can only use 1 item per attack.

I was looking at this and ended up getting it for Christmas. I think D&D may have been too much for my sons first introduction to roleplay games. He really got into his part as DM, very quickly adapting things to keep the game moving. While the boards are ok I think we'll move to dungeon tiles for future games and will be using minatures for monsters.

Awesome idea! I could see coming up with a cool game using the bits and pieces.

Played this but as a DM that handpicked events and corrected the shit out of the pacing and we got 8 hours of amazing content out of it including some of the best roleplaying I've seen in my life. Not a whole heap of replay value if we were to return to it though. But otherwise, yeah, as long as you have an experienced dm correcting the shit out of the pacing then it's a fantastic fucking introduction. Well worth the price.

@@amypuzia1059 I got a copy for my 11 or 12 birthday, 1982 or 83 I think. You could play as a wizard, elf, dwarf, or fighter. The goal was to get to the end of the board, turning over a new monster card in each room. You got a treasure card if successful. My favorite was the Medallion of ESP, let you check what monster was in a room before entering.

It was reprinted. My brothers sons played it so much I gave it to them.
@ArcNeoMasato2 жыл бұрын
I bought the recent-ish reprint and had fun, but sadly my cards were all screwed up, and they offered.... literally no help, so I literally need to just buy it again to get new item cards to get them all the same size. Not the worst thing ever though, since it was cheap as heck to begin with, and I actually plan on making a "deluxe" version for myself. (Just get proper minis instead of standies, paint them a single color, then get 2D6 of the same color so each player has their own)

umm does everyone get one gold and one item per monster kill or they have to choose which one gets the gold piece and which one gets the item ?
@QuestsAndChaos3 жыл бұрын
According to the rules yes. This is meant to be an easy game to introduce kids to D&D. I think, it could be modified as a coin for everyone, and 1 item for one person to make it more challenging. An item can only be used once per location board, not per circle.
