Did that once believing it was an exit, but then realized it was just a parking spot I knew I'd look like a prick if I'd continue to merge back in. So I fully stopped, got out of the car for a minute or two so others could see I had a legitimate reason to pull over, and then started again. All was fine :)

The Price of Impatience. A while back there a guy behind me on the highway decided he just could not wait 5 more seconds and went around me literately a couple hundred feet from the exit and he barely made the ramp. Of course I caught right up to him at the light. He began inching his way forward while the light was still red, then floored it just as it turn green. He proceeded to swerve between lanes, cutting off several cars... only to get stuck behind a parked semi, while everyone he passed just drove on by.

@joe garza This was filmed in the UK... Any traffic in the layby MUST give way to traffic on the carriageway - until there's a safe space to merge ! The change from the solid white line at the edge of the carriageway - to a dotted one... is a GIVE WAY sign. That means the prick now has to wait for a gap to re-join the flow.

Queue jumping is a problem in Texas when drivers exit a freeway onto the frontage road because of slow traffic, drive ahead and then re-enter the freeway. This causes the entry ramps to be over-clogged with traffic needing to merge, slowing everything down.

Not really. If the frontage road is faster, there's probably an issue with the road design. And the merging slow downs are caused by too many exits and entrances close to each other, and because people don't zipper merge properly.
