It's a shame, that Qui-Gon and Dooku haven't been seen together, after the events of 'Tales of the Jedi'. Especially in the Prequel Trilogy.

Possible spoiler Qui-Gon is credited as the overarching protagonist of the franchise, but after the appearances of Darth Plagueis (the overarching antagonist) and Yoda in 'The Acolyte', I think that that role should be given to the latter. Qui-Gon could be the opening one.
@mmmmythical3 ай бұрын
Perhaps, although I’d argue that Qui Gon still maintains this role. Obi Wan was the overarching protagonist of the OT before Qui Gon was even conceived as a character, so relatively speaking for just that trilogy he can still be identified that way. I’d argue the same is true for Qui Gon, ignoring material that was released decades after the PT, Qui Gon functions as the overarching protagonist of the original 6 films, with Obi Wan playing a similar role for Luke in Episode 4 and onward
@giosy00723 ай бұрын
@@mmmmythical Yes, but I'm talking about the entire franchise. Since Darth Plagueis is the overarching antagonist, I don't know, if Qui-Gon would be his perfect archenemy.
@Unknown-hb3id17 күн бұрын
We must have different understandings of overarching protag/antag, bc I do not see where you get this idea from
@giosy007217 күн бұрын
@Unknown-hb3id Well, currently Qui-Gon is credited ad the overarching antagonist only of the 'Skywalker Saga', on 'Heroes Wiki'.
@mmmmythical17 күн бұрын
@@giosy0072I don’t necessarily know whether an overarching protagonist and overarching antagonist always need to be related. An overarching antagonist is like the initial master of the antagonist who is relevant in our story, but is either dead or hasn’t been fully revealed as a threat yet to the protagonist. In the first 6 films you could argue this is Plagueis since he is Palpatine’s master, but I suppose you could also make a case for it being Palpatine himself and I think there is decent evidence for this. Vader and Tarkin are the main villains of Episode 4, but Palpatine functions as the overarching antagonist of that film (much like how Obi Wan is the overarching protagonist of that film). Then he comes in later on in the trilogy to directly get involved in the plot from then on. In the OT, he undoubtedly plays this role, but that’s because Plagueis was not yet invented as a character. In the prequels, at least in Episode 1, I still think it’s Palpatine to some degree, but I could see you making a compelling case for Plagueis too and I’d tend to agree. We don’t see anything of Plagueis, and because he and Palpatine are responsible for orchestrating everything that occurs I think it would be fair. But to a degree I think it is also valid to advocate for Palpatine fitting this role. In TPM, Palpatine is directly involved in the plot of the film’s premise, he orchestrates the Trade Federation blockade by bribing Gunray to invade Naboo to challenge the authority of then Supreme Chancellor Vallorum. In a way, this makes him the overarching antagonist here as well, and to an extent the same can be said about Attack of the Clones. A “phantom menace” is a pretty fitting way to describe an overarching antagonist since he doesn’t fully reveal himself till later on, but he operates through various agents like Maul, Dooku, and Grevious who directly face the protagonists. But Plageuis also fits the definition, he did play a crucial role in inducting the major villain into the sith, and he helped orchestrate these events too. The fact that he is no longer directly involved because he is dead goes a long way to support this. And as for Yoda - he isn’t involved in the premise of the plot. He’s not present in the decision to send Qui Gon and Obi Wan go to the blockade, the crawl tells us this is Vallorum’s doing. If anything, Vallorum is more an overarching protagonist than Yoda, if you define it this way (having some say/action in the initiation of the plot). Qui Gon is more responsible for kickstarting the central plot of the Skywalker saga, that being the discovery and initiation of Anakin Skywalker into the Jedi Order, and he is soon killed off to make way for more primary protagonists to carry the story forward (in the same way that Obi Wan in the OT dies at the end of the 3rd act as we lead into the 4th). This should take priority over whether he is the “perfect archenemy” of his counterpart, since at no point do any of these characters directly interact, and it’s more important that they kickstart the plot and are responsible for the state of the universe. Following the definition, Yoda doesn’t meet the criteria for overarching protagonist, and the only reason I’d say he could be described this way is because he is the Jedi Grandmaster. He isn’t the reason the main characters are involved in the events. However, you could make a case for Yoda if you use the criteria that an overarching protagonist is present throughout the entire story as a guide (Yoda is, for films 1-6) and I think by that definition this could work. Regardless, the use of these terms is really dependent on where you get your definition and what you consider an overarching protagonist / antagonist to be. The way you define this really changes things drastically, as I’ve described. Me personally I don’t feel settled on Qui-Gon / Yoda but I believe Palpatine is a far more compelling choice for the role. As for the wiki, I’m going to stick to an independent analysis of the films. The wiki is made by fans and can be edited by anyone. I would not take it as gospel regarding the roles of characters in a meta sense especially.
