Really cool of you to post this. I think you are working on the cure for the inherent issue with this boat, width and too much air being trapped underneath. Looking at these runs there is no porposing at all so you've fixed that by squaring the hull and proper set up. No more warpage. Now it's air management. As you have stated. If you like to tinker, this is the boat for you. It's why I bought it. Anyone can stick batteries in a Zonda and go 100 +. This boat makes you think and your sharing is really appreciated by us who ate less

Funny im now trying stuff like this on the bj24. So tough to keep it down over 80. Put an rc car wing in the front and going to try it soon lol. May try a piece of square foam if that doesn’t work (guessing the added drag is gonna be tough to overcome)

note to self: do not click on the links in the foreign language… oh hey BigB yep just love watching your videos. I do believe your onto something with that smaller square shape, it seams to defuse the air flow in the proper amount. As one of your subs pointed out to me, we are looking for lower pressure under the boat. So in my humble opinion- bring the blunt front end to a more downward point creating a little down force from the top, keep that square defuser underneath in the tunnel “1 or so more forward 🤔 or not, seams to have worked where you put it (intuitiveness is you super power) I believe you will have your self a race capable rc boat

Good one "B" I just got the BJ 42 it's still in the box no time to unpack. Owning a boat shop conflicts with hobby time and the fact it's been over 105 deg every weekend this summer puts a damper on things. I have been watching videos for the last year on this boat I have wondered if some kind of air dam might help this blow over problem so when I get this boat unboxed I will try something like this on the BJ42. I have had a little problem with the Miss Geico 36 blowing over into the wind but I think that most of the problem with it getting the cg right. Most 6S packs won't fit forward under the deck but I found some Tindling 5200 120c packs on Amazon that fit under the deck and will allow me to move the CG forward a bit. The air dam might be helpful as well. I have got to get some testing time here soon. Hope this heat wave ends soon 45 days over 100 as of today it's tough on a old guy like me. I watch all of your boat videos and love them all. Boat Gang Baby.

I did this the day it came out. You can see me mention it on the horizon hobby website. I ended up running lead tire weights 4 inches back and 8s3p 27ah packs. 74mph with an octura 545 I modded about 15 years ago.

@@IRONCLADRC hard to say as I’m sure you’ve noticed. Sometimes it runs amazing sometimes it just wants to blow over. An air dam has usually fixed my cats blow over issues. This one not so much. This would easily be my favorite boat if it ran good. I love the size.
@jared60722 жыл бұрын
This is pretty cool. Its got me wondering if taping different foam shapes to the front of the boat to manage air would change anything. I mean compaired to other cats that have a nice sharp leading edge, this one is just flat. There could be a pure symetrical one, one that curves down and flip it around to curve up. Im just getting started with tuning my bj42. Just got the rcbitz goodies and looking forward to getting that mid speed porposing out along with the random blow over. Lovin these vids that show what works and what doesnt.

Very interesting video Big B! You ventured upon uncharted territory with this stuff. How about making some sort of rail system where you can install the air dam and be able to slide it forward or further back and then lock it into whatever position works. There I go - over complicating things again. Thanks for getting the wheels in my head spinning this morning :)
@IRONCLADRC2 жыл бұрын
Yes sir a rail system would be a great idea 💡 along as the air dam stays flat I think it's a great idea. The foam was a spur of the moment deal, giving guys something to ponder
@peteroosterhoff88502 жыл бұрын
Just wondering... when you changed strut height, there is no comparison anymore i would think. Youre not able to adjust strut angle so is stays planted..? I don't have this boat, but got myself a small cat a few weaks ago . Put a 5mm wedge under first (front) step on a flat table, then push strut flat on table and tighten it. Then tested cg a bit and was spot on in just 2 runs....
@IRONCLADRC2 жыл бұрын
Yes sir I get the same effect by moving the strut position, she's been running great.. personally my boat doesn't need the air dam I was trying to inspire & give ideas for others who are experiencing extremely high speed blow Overs with catamaran & or hydroplanes.
@peteroosterhoff88502 жыл бұрын
@@IRONCLADRC I think a blow-over is always a risk with speeds above 60mph and finding the sweet spot. The more the boat runs light, the more speed and the more risk... Don't believe disrupting an air flow is a solution but needs to be adressed in the setup. But, nice off you to try those things out. Keep on boating...

I love the R&D but wouldn’t just changing the strut angle a bit to run the boat a little more “Wet” accomplish the same thing. I see the point of the adjustable airfoil on a hydroplane but never seen anything on a real tunnel hull/Catamaran style boat. Someone should design a servo controlled strut that could be adjusted on the fly with a 3rd channel. Basically adjustable trim like a real boat has.
@IRONCLADRC2 жыл бұрын
Yes adjusting the strut will keep the bow down to a certain extent/ speed if your experiencing HIGH SPEED Flips the the air dam could be a game changer
