Quick and Easy Refinish of a Fender MIM Stratocaster with Danish Oil

Didn't want to spend a ton of time on this, but thought I'd share what I learned from using a heat gun to refinish a Fender Standard Stratocaster from 2001. The poly on this guitar had started to crack and chip off so I decided to remove all of it and refinish with a Danish Oil. It only took a couple of days and no more than 10 hours.

What was a cool lookin blue finish

Yeah I know, I am particularly attached to that blue color because that was the color of my first guitar. But it looked awful with those huge chips of paint out of it

I did that to a Squier Classic Vibe Tele and then stained it purple with leather dye, then recoated it gloss with Wipe On Poly. The purple is see-through, and I’m pleased how the pine body shows through.

I'm all about the wood grain even if it isn't a particularly fancy piece of wood. I also love a touch of color stain!

what’s the paint u used, or is the see thru thing a result of less layers of paint

This is so much faster than when I took the finish off of my beat up Jaguar, and not just because it's sped up.

Was it a nitro finish? Either way, I suspect mine was a much lower risk endeavor since this was a guitar I paid $200 for.

@@mtjguitars No, it was poly. Metallic red. There were just some sections that really didn't want to release without some force. I should probably work on the refinishing process now that the weather is nice.
