Good job Dave. You're right about the stove coal. Burns hotter, but won't last as long as nut. I like stove in the coldest months, and nut for the others. I also like your picture window, and can relate to the wood sooting it. Enjoy the winter.

Another benefit of using Matchlight, is your glass won't get crapped out by starting with wood. I started using this stuff a few years ago, and agree it's the cats meow. Learned it from the experts at the forum "Coal Pail," which originally was labeled NEPA Crossroads. If you're a coal burner, and looking for info and entertainment, give them a look. :)

How did that Tractor Supply Coal burn for you? I’ve read that their coal is low quality & bags have a lot of “fines” or powder, which isn’t good?
@johnford55686 жыл бұрын
Why am I watching this from South Louisiana? Love it but I know some who installed stoves and we're used once. One guy did keep one going on the porch and would divert some into house and that was wood. Your warm days are our cold ones. Up there it must be a sight when that anthracite gets that blue flame going in a well designed system, both for heat and the twice a day tending. I would still feel better having a dedicated cold air.intake from outside instead of sucking basement air.

Thank you, this really helped me understand. I see you like Anthrasite, that sounds good. I didn't quite get how the hopper automatically feeds down with no motor? How does it keep feeding? Thank you.
@gliderydin29112 жыл бұрын
Gravity feeds it. As the coal burns it turns to powder ash as it does that some falls through the grates on its own but as it does the coal in the hopper slowly lowers down to the active burning bed and it continues to burn til the hoppers empty or the ash suffocates it

Your chimney stove pipe is installed backwards. The pipes is being stalled so that the upper piece fits into the lower piece. That way if there’s any moisture or liquid it gets into the pipe it will flow down into the stove instead of leaking out of the joints when they are installed incorrectly.

How does the circulator do with burning wood? Looks like since you can remove the hopper that it could work well for burning wood during the shoulder seasons.
@davecord70554 жыл бұрын
I have never burned wood in it, but there is a guy in our area who does. I don't think ds machine co recommends doing it with the circulator model though. They have several other models that are designed to burn both.
@SheepDoggy68 Жыл бұрын
The easiest method is to load the stove with coal, then turn a propane torch or two up through the shaker grates from the ash door. About 20 minutes later coal is burning and you can close everything up and go about your day!

The hopper is open in a steady state,Hence the top plate with a gasket rim. This is a spot on heater he has..Minimum movement/parts and well designed. As for starting with charcoal that's the easiest/less time consuming method but when wood is free,it's the fire starter for me.Along with a few bags of charcoal on the side for them dreaded days when you wake up freezing to the bone...Nice tutorial on how's and whys...I'm still figuring out why it doesn't need a damper,,the design as to why that is.

@@marcushoward6560 some concept for both fuel types. Wood normally gets only a little air from below most comes from the top or sides from what I've seen and coal is the opposite all its draft air comes from below. If you let that much air in under wood its probably impossible to control and coal in a wood stove is gonna go 1 of 2 ways. It either won't burn at all or if you get it going it'll be less then controllable and then on top of that you can thank the epa for getting involved on how clean the exhaust has to be
