Very useful information. I knew about the drag and drop, but; I didn't know you could add other quick calculations. I'm always using Median then delete it after I find out what it is. I've written formulas that made my eyes water and my head hurt. Anything to make things quicker is cool in my book.

This was helpful! How do you figure out the Q1, Q3 and interquartile range?
@macmost8 ай бұрын
Depends on the situation and how you have constructed your spreadsheet.

Another winner Gary! Thank you. Is there a way to add a specific calculation e.g. *1.04 to the calculations on the bottom? Or would the best way be to create a column that does that calculation first? And how do you use the And/Or?
@macmost2 жыл бұрын
For specific calculations, just use normal formulas in cells, yes. For logical functions, see kzbin.info/www/bejne/anzHo2yabb-fbM0

Watching your videos, im liking numbers a lot more than excel and wondering why its not used by most of people.
@macmost2 жыл бұрын
I think it is used more on Macs than Excel. I mean it is free as opposed to having to buy Excel, which means most Mac users don't have Excel. But I don't know if anyone has any stats to back that up.
@RELubber2 жыл бұрын
Because most people only know Excel. While it might take a bit of a mind shift to get comfortable with Numbers, there’s no way I’m paying a subscription to a program that’s 99% the same as it was 20 years ago.

I'm not sure which video to watch to help me. I'm creating a weekly budget, but a lot of expenses are monthly or fortnightly etc. I'd like to create a formula (?) where by selecting the frequency of the expenses in a pop-up menu in one column (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly... etc) it calculates the expense and gives me a weekly total or portion of in a new column. have you covered that in any past videos? Thanks!

Hi Gary. Do you have any idea how to figure average costs of something when there are different quantities and differest prices each time? In Numbers, I have my spreadsheet currently telling me the total sum of the different quantities purchased over several months. And I've added the different prices over the months, and divided by the number of months. The problem is that that doesn't really give me the average paid since the quantities purchased each time were different. Instead, it only gives me the average price paid if the quantities purchased each time were all the same. I don't know how to figure the answer. And obviously, that means I don't know how to set it up in Numbers either. Any chance you might be able to help me with that?
@macmost2 жыл бұрын
Just use math. Get the sum of the price totals, divide by the sum of the quantity.

Thanks! I had no idea that was there. Is something similar available for iPad Numbers?
@macmost2 жыл бұрын
Yes. Look and see.

Hello. I was going to ask same question. Ive just tested it on the numbers app in iPad however there is no row at the bottom of the app that shows the sum and average…etc. is there a way to show it up ? Or I guess it doesnt work on ipad.
@bevintx54402 жыл бұрын
I looked there before I posted the question. I just looked again, but I still don’t see it. Is there some configuration that I have to do befor I can see it?
@macmost2 жыл бұрын
@@bevintx5440 Perhaps not then. I remember seeing these on the iPad, but perhaps I am mistaken.
@tjmsyd62982 жыл бұрын
If you select a range of cells in Numbers on the iPad and then choose ‘Cell Actions’ (or alternatively hit the green Cell button) then you can choose ‘Quick Formulas’ for Sum, Average, Minimum, Maximum, Count or Product. It will show the result in the cell at the end of your selection. There are 2 shortcomings: (1) you need to go back and delete the result in that cell if you only wanted to see the result temporarily; and (2) if the cell at the end of your selection was already populated then the result of the Quick Formula will overwrite it. A workaround for each of these is to simply hit the undo button in the top left hand corner.

It's not quite right to say that Numbers is ignoring the headers for the calculations. It is ignoring text values. If you have a numeric value in the header, it will show up in the calculation.
@macmost2 жыл бұрын
Interesting. If you put a formula like SUM(B) it will definitely ignore headers, even if they are numbers. But using Quick Calculations seems to be not using SUM(B) but SUM(B1:BX) instead.
@mijaba712 жыл бұрын
@@macmost I'm not quite sure what Quick Calculations are doing, but if you put a number in the header, it is included in the sum. If you have a mix of text and numbers, the text is ignored. My guess is that Quick Calculations is doing just what you showed: it's adding up everything that you select. There's definitely a lot more to the Quick Calculations than I knew about before watching the video. It's great just how natural it feels to use, at least most of the time.
