wow I also did not expect that amount of circuits, just my assumption: it is also needed for the new Antispark detection which is needed for USB PD EPR. Because with 28V if you suddenly unplugs the cable, there could be sparks which are burning the contacts

Out of curiosity, since someone brought it up regarding the charger itself having more RAM than the first apollo mission: 🤔 How much RAM and ROM do you think the chip in the USB-C end and the Mag-Safe end of this cable have? Tried to google for the chips from your video images but didn’t have much luck. Thank you! Greetings from Berlin

The cable which comes with ipad pro(M1/M2) have no model information on it. A serial number is present but shows invalid on apple's site. No model nuuber is present. I was able to check that it can provide 65W to my macbook pro 14 with Samsung 65W trio charger, but I don't have any higher wattage charger to check further. Can you guys do a teardown of that cable?? Thankyou in advance

Am I correct in thinking that the 3rd prong of the plug that plugs into the wall (the earth plug), connects to the metal shield through the cable, and then to the MBP body? I keep hearing that if you have only a 2 prong plug, then a voltage flows through the body, which can be felt as a strong tingle in your hands, but if you have a 3 prong plug, this is gone? If so, can someone explain why the hell the body even needs to be earthed? Why is the charge even flowing through the body in the first place? Is it due to the track pad?

Man, I was hoping I could take a MagSafe 3 cable, take the USB-C end, cut it and solder it to the inside of an Apple 27" Thunderbolt Display for power. I just got a 16" MBP M1 Pro, and i'm using a MagSafe 1/2 to USB-C adapter. It works fine, but only provides 45 watts of charging power, do definitely no fast charging. The MBP sips power so it's fine as is, but it does take up one of the USB-C/Thunderbolt ports, I'd much rather use MagSafe, even if the Thunderbolt Display can only provide 85 watts, which is better than 45 watts on my current solution.

Why did they use four wires positive voltage and only one for 0V? Why wouldn't they want to balance out the resistance?
@choilive
@choilive 2 жыл бұрын
My guess is the single GND wire is to prevent potential ground loops and have a single common ground path. For the 4 positive wires, it looks like the MagSafe connector has 2 pins for V+, and it looks like the two pairs of positive wires comes in a twisted pair for EMI rejection- so it might make sense to have a single twisted pair of cables per V+ connection, so 4 wires total. I haven't done any electrical engineering work in a while so this is just my armchair speculation.
@joshdau
@joshdau 2 жыл бұрын
The two large shields that are wound around the outside of the inner conductors will be grounded at both ends as well, and so will act as additional "0V" conductors. Given those shields seem to contain many more strands than the inner red conductors, I'd imagine the positive and negative conductors are fairly well balanced (as you would expect it to be).
@joshdau
@joshdau 2 жыл бұрын
@@choilive You don't get any EMI rejection from a twisted pair of cables that aren't differential, so you'd need to have a twisted V+ and V- pair for there to be any EMI rejection benefits. Given all of the ground conductors would be grounded to a single node at either end, there isn't any potential for a ground loop due to having multiple ground conductors in the cable. A ground loop occurs when you have ground conductors terminated at different ground potentials, which can cause small current loops to flow. Because they're all connected to the same ground potential, there isn't any possibility for any loop current to flow.
