Hi Everyone and I hope you're doing well. When it comes to spraying paint or finish I think It’s best to have two guns one for Spraying one for paint and another one for clear finishes. 90% of the time I’m spraying finish I’m spraying lacquer. Lacquer is just a very easy finish to use it dries quickly And gives a great finish. This is the process I use for cleaning the spray gun. I sprayed a significant number of cars using lacquer paint when younger. I often applied a final coat of clear lacquer to give the job a special touch. I agree with all you said & did with the minor exception of cleaning the nozzle. Even tho it looks clean, you were spraying a clear material. I would suggest running some solvent thru the gun while the nozzle is installed (or placing the nozzle in a small container of the used solvent for a few minutes, if concerned about placing more VOC's into the air). To assure a good, clean start on your next job, a few seconds of prevention is worthwhile.

its worth it. was nodding in agreement all the while as he was saying not to use the same gun since it can never get 100% clean. if it never happen to you personally, ud never know how heart breaking it is to see bits of paint fly out the nozzle onto the surface finish of a nice dining room table haha

It's never a good idea to use lacquer thinner as the last cleaning solvent in a gun, it will eventually ruin the seals inside the gun. After using the lacquer thinner run some water through it. Your guns will last longer.

Great tip, Jon~! Before investing in a turbine ($$), I'm thinking of getting a less expensive gun to use with my compressor to become familiar with spray finishing. I'm looking forward to getting away from using only rattle cans & brushes, as I've done thus far.

That's exactly how I used to clean my spray guns Jon, great video! However, I've moved on to 3m's PPS system now and couldn't be happier. Cleanup is an absolute breeze literally taking only a couple of minutes, and much less cleaning solvent is used. I concur with using two guns.

I started out using the $100 Super Finish Max from Amazon, and fell in love with the idea of spraying paint instead of brushing/rolling. That cheap paint sprayer couldn't atomize latex paint well at all, so I recently upgraded to the Fuji Spray Q3, and I absolutely love it. Would love to purchase another gun, but at $330 each...well....

Does the Fuji Spray Q3 do well spraying latex? How much thinning?
@JayBergCustoms4 жыл бұрын
Latex and water based poly is the only thing I've sprayed with it. I bought a 2.0 mm nozzle/needle to do latex. As far as thinning, I do so until the paint reaches the viscosity recommended in Fuji's guide, and I add a little Floetrol to the mix. Great results so far!

Curious how big your space is. I’m in a car and a half garage and I’m not sure I have enough space to not get spray everywhere. Love to see a wide shot of how you set it up for spraying.
@JayBergCustoms4 жыл бұрын
The over spray from the Fuji is pretty minimal, but you do still get some atomized material in the air. I purchased a 10 x 10 pop up canopy that I put up in my two garage as a pain shack. Its tight, but it works, and keeps the spray off everything.
