Quick Grappling Hook Build

It was raining and I was bored today so I made a grappling hook out of some Rebar.
The blue rope I had sucked because it was slippery so get some thicker bumpy nylon rope and gloves maybe.
Let me know if you like the short projects in longer video's, I'd rather make the more compressed ones but it's whichever is more entertaining
These things could be super dangerous, if it's not hooked right and slips you could fall and get a grappling hook through the skull. that would really suck so be super carefull

2 questions 1. how do you get the grappling hook down 2. how thick is the rebar?

The hook should be a little heavy for gettingnit down. Dont sharpen the tines. Just wiggle the rope a bit and gravity will bring it down. Looks like 5/8".. ?? 😀

What was that transformer you used and could you tell us how it works?

William Laidlaww Its a 7kva weldig transformer. It uses a 240v 30 amp input and outputs at 4.6v with close to 2,000 amps(its rated to 5,000). amps are essentially how many electrons are flowing through a conductor. The rebar has less cross sectional area than the wires, so it will get hotter because there is more Resistance and the same number of electrons are trying to squeeze through it. The friction of all these electrons is what heats up the rebar (its a bit more complicated than that, but that's the jist)

I got mine on Ebay, it takes some looking around as they aren't super common. I recommend trying an MOT melter for now, these things can be very lethal.

Could someone use an arc welder the way you used that transformer?

Fleece Johnson arc welders typically output 30-60v and 100-250ish amps. The transformer I used outputs 4v and several thousand amps (amps are what do the melting) An arc welder couldn't melt rebar the way I did it. 1/8 electrodes are about as big as they can melt with current flow

Same here. Made one by bending some steel bars, they were cold when I did it. Then I welded it. Mine is one hook with two other hooks welded onto it. So fairly safe.

I'm more concerned with the branch it hooks onto, I've used my hook to pull trees out of the ground but its hard to know how secure the thing is when you throw it up over a branch or whatever
