Awesome find! I've found some old Victors at a torn down substation, but never been fortunate to find any in mint condition like those.
@VariacManiac7 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yeah, hard to find insulators (especially ones like these) in mint condition....

We also have porcelain hanging insulators with a white edging on the second rib, they were produced in 1930-1970. You can also meet German ,, Rosenthal ,, American ,, Hewlett, Uncle Sam's insulators ,,. There are also ,, LOCKE insulators ,,.

Holly crap them suspension insulators are sick. I only have glass suspensions but when I went to the old decommissioned substation I saw some brown suspensions but they were above the giant transformer so I was out of luck. But anyways nice vid.
@VariacManiac5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! If you can, you should follow the lines that went to the substation. If the substation is abandoned, there might be poles laying on the ground with insulators on them, do a walk around the substation, comb the area and you might find more, just be careful.

Ok cool thanks. I definitely will avoid going near the tracks because the really fast V line trains go through there. The whole overhead line above the tracks has been taken down. But I saw some photos from about 2016 and there was still some remaining catenary poles. I could check underneath the poles and I could be in luck. But cool video as always

About six years late to the party, but where would one find suspension typically, aside from the hellishly high voltage 20+ link metal tower transmission stuff.

You can probably get ones like these on FB marketplace, & or ebay. They usually get overpriced sadly. You might be able to get some from lineman.

Now i want to see some videos from you, about cable terminations and potheads. You should try to hunt this, it's very nice to have, especially 2,3 or 4 conductor potheads

When I rescued my first huge suspension insulator I said the same thing there heavy literally the line men had to help me carry them to my dad's truck
@SadBoyIJ7 жыл бұрын
How do you even find all that stuff. here in australia, they always take everything to the dump
@VariacManiac7 жыл бұрын
I just walk along power lines, and once in a while, I'd find something and sometimes I would not. Wherever I go, I look at the bases of the poles to see if there's anything there. And sometimes a storm would blow down poles and when the old poles are replaced with new ones, the old ones are set aside to be taken and just before the old poles are taken, I go to see if there are any insulators left behind on them....

Fair enough

You do the same thing?
@SadBoyIJ7 жыл бұрын
No because I dont get out very often, but when i do, i usually walk along the old telephone lines next to the railroads. always find stacks there. Im James E btw
@VariacManiac7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I always find stuff around telegraph lines. Well can't wait to see more content on your insulator channel, no rush.

cool insulators, how often do you find insulators and how do you find them
@VariacManiac7 жыл бұрын
I find them once or twice every couple to few months and I usually find them where I think they may be, have a look at this video;) kzbin.info/www/bejne/nWOYeIeIl7GYaNE

that would be cool if you could maybe find the piece that broke off of it and glue it back together
@VariacManiac7 жыл бұрын
I could actually..

@VariacManiac6 жыл бұрын
This is in Michigan, where in Michigan did you find yours?
@PyroThunder7 жыл бұрын
I haven't found these in years. they're getting harder to find since they're going to composite and plastic. 1960 isn't bad :D
@VariacManiac7 жыл бұрын
Where did you find ones like these?? They're very cool;)
@PyroThunder7 жыл бұрын
Variac Maniac I found them on a line similar to this. I had 8 when I found them. but I sold most of them off. I kept 2 of them. one is a pinco suspension from 59 in a reddish color. and a Thomas from 61 in a swirled yellowish caramel color.. these are getting rarer by the day. grab 'em while you can!
@VariacManiac7 жыл бұрын
I sure will, before their destroyed and crushed.

I have the same type only have two but 7 good find

These are 10" in diameter. I'll promise to you that I'll upload a full collection video, but it's going to have to be done outside as the collection is quite large and showing the full scale might be cooler to see:)
