Everything about that instrument is a revelation. Soft, soft sound. Fabulous shape. Wonderful creatiity.

WOW thanks so much! I appreciate it. It was a real fun one to make and one of my favorites to play. I am looking at making some more gourd banjos this year and hopefully offering an online video course for those that want to make there own. Thanks for letting me know you liked the banjo and video!

Pretty cool. It reminds me a little to another instrument from Azerbayan, both have the same box form. Maby without frets it could sound on a eastern way.
@JDanielGraham3 жыл бұрын
Yeah It could for sure! Most fretless ones I make have a lower tone but I think fretless with steel strings would make that more eastern sound.

Beautiful! Any tips for recording one of these babies?
@JDanielGraham2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It depends on what you are recording with. Half the video is a RODE mic on my camera, the glamour shot portion is recorded on a couple of microphones. The mic placement is based on taste and where it sounds best. Some people place them at the bridge some place them near the sound hole. In this one I have one up the mid neck near the 12th fret and then one in-between the sound hole and the bridge. Its mainly playing around to find what you think produces the best sound for the instrument and each one is different. I have found especially an iPhone manages the volume for you which can have odd results sometimes.

webbing of the thumb is not a good place to store your chisel... duly noted.
