Dear root42, enjoyed very much the way you present your video. I am in the process of getting mine to work for the same reasons you got yours. In the meanwhile I am watching all the videos about the device in KZbin while waiting from eBay a 32GB Samsung EVO SD card to use it with. If this mini camera works, I will buy a second one to place it facing to the rear from my bike. By the way, the USB mini B (5-pin) computer connection cord is easily available in eBay. I bought a second one just in case. Best regards..

If it is connected to a usb power cable, will it start record when the usb is powered on ? I am thinking of placing it as a dashcam to my motorcycle and I want it to power on and record when I turn on the ignition. Will it loop record when the sd card is full ?? Thanks.

It does loop yes. You can power it and record. However then the cap is off and it’s not waterproof anymore.

@@root42 Τhank you for your quick reply. I am planning on hiding/placing/protect it underneath the plastic fairing so there won't be any water pouring directly to it. Nevertheless, I pinpoint your remark and I am thinking of finding a way to make it waterproof somehow, maybe combining the rear cap and the cable. Thank you very much, you are of great help!

If you have more budget: I switched to a Sony HDR AS50 in the meantime. It has different drawbacks but much better battery life and better image quality. It‘s more of an action cam though, but works great on my bicycle.

@@root42 Budget is not an issue, I've got a GoPro360Max and a GoPro Hero 6 black, but these I am using only for my trips. I want something mounted on the bike at all times as a possible post accident footage feature, that's why I am looking on something cheap, that will be mounted on and I'll forget about it.

I bought a SPORTDV camera which looks like yours. I had great difficulty finding a suitable memory card, and found that it will not charge unless it has the right card. However, having taken four video clips the whole device will not recharge. Any suggestions?

If they haven’t gotten any better in the past years: return it! I really can’t recommend these cameras unless they fix those problems.

I was thinking about your comment on the unusual small USB plug. I found the original lead and tried it to re-charge. it seems to be working! I have several small size USB leads but there must be a different wiring. Your comment was enough to be a clue to a cure. Many thanks!

I mean. What did you spect? I think you actually are getting very high quality for the value. A camera integrated with a smart phone, cost you $600 and much more, and (AND) you cannot manipulate its software. Just for some reality check comparison with other options.

Lässt sich die Kamera auch als USB-Webcam nutzen, wenn man sie am PC anschließt? Überlege die über USB als Außenkamera ans Auto anzubringen, da die Kamera "wasserfest "ist

The camera shows up only as a USB mass storage on my PC. So, no you cannot use it as a Webcam. With attached USB cable it isn’t waterproof either.

Hello this is a great tutorial 👍 thanks for sharing. Do you know the name of the USB type please? I bought a second hand camera and it came without the usb cable.. it's not USB mini or USB micro!.. I've not seen this type before and I don't know what to search for 🤨 Thanks John 😊

Yeah, the USB plug seems to be pretty proprietary! This is a disadvantage on this camera. I haven’t found a replacement lead either.

@@root42 Hi mate, Thanks for the reply. I have managed to track down a replacement charge cable 👍 They are the same as Nikon camera charge/data cables. The actual one that I purchased from Amazon, was for a Nikon Coolpix 😊

Ich überleg die mir gerade zu kaufen, alternativen kosten halt meist mindestens das dreifache und wie du auch erwähnst, wäre der Einsatzzweck wirklich nur um mögliche Verkehrsunfälle aufzuzeichnen. Eher ein ja oder nein von dir bei dem Preis?

Ein ja im Sommer, ein klares nein im Winter. Unter 12°C funktioniert die Kamera einfach nicht. Ich habe noch keinen Ersatz, aber ich werde mir irgendwann eine bessere zulegen. Das mit der Temperaturfestigkeit sieht man aber leider erst nach dem Kauf.

I did not find any updates for the firmware in my research. I think this camera is so generic and cheap that you won’t get any...
