Watching this simple guide made me realize my P.E. teacher was absolutely not qualified to teach us how to shoot a bow. Everything from the beginning to the end was flawed. She taught us to draw back from really high up. She taught us to "forcefully let go of the string to shoot" with a "you shoot by pulling your hand backwards fast" (Meanwhile NUSensei says simply to let go of the string.) The posture aswell, and she didn't tell us a single thing about the proper muscle usage and shoulder lock during the aim. After 10min of shooting entire class was tired. It was a longtime ago, so those are the only flawed instructions i remember her giving us. But dare i say NUSensei is the gift of god to us from beginners to veterans. Wanted to get back to archery, but clubs are closed right now, so i keep binge watching every single video of his and take notes ^^ Thanks for making these videos !!

Well, I was about to go shooting again this afternoon after the winter break, how convenient you summed up all of the basics for me once more. Edit: Beginners, be sure to turn the arm that holds the bow outwards or the string will hit your arm. You'll hit your arm a few times, but pain is a quick teacher :p

I, like many people, have used this lock down as a reason to do something I have always wanted to do. I really love your videos, but I feel that the most important thing I have learned from you is about pushing forward with the bow when you shoot...or something to that effect. I have found that it is, above all, the greatest benefit to me. I can't remember precisely which video you mentioned it in, but I feel that you should do a video dedicated to it, as you only kind of mentioned it in passing. In my life I have learned many various things ranging from art to science, and of those things, I always look for the super important, and sometimes subtle, ideas. One can always learn and argue about certain technicalities, but there are those minute specifics that really change the way people approach things.

My first bow is coming this week! I bought one after watching Sensei and doing my diligent research into a bow that will fit me. I feel that when this lockdown is over I will have a better understanding and more confidence in myself going into the club for the first time. Thank you so much Sensei for much needed courage. Because of where I live, I decided to get foam broad arrow tips for home practice. So say someone's cat or dog comes out of nowhere, I will not kill it. This is not the rubber broad tip that I almost bought because I thought that wouldn't be lethal, was I ever wrong! As one newbie to another, research everything you are going to get for your bow before you buy! Again Sensei, thank you for drilling this into my head. :)

Excellent video on the basics. It doesn't appear that your eyes are looking at the arrow tip down at the grass (gap) when you shoot. You seem to be instinctively "aiming" the bow/arm at the target down in front of you with your body properly bent towards it.

Like many others thanks to Covid19 Ive discovered the world archery tournaments and have been watching highlights and found this channel as well, and have finally 2wanted to purchase a bow and start learning . I've found the Topoint Endeavor takedown recurve , and it looks like a great deal because it costs the same as their unision riser but actually includes limbs alongside the riser. I'm unable to find any reviews on the endeavor, only on the unison, and I hear the unison is good so i can't help but assume the Endeavor is good. I'd love to see more reviews on it though, I just really can't find many at all

Excellent video David. It was super helpful, especially since formal training is hard to come by in my area. Do you recommend a sight when first starting out. How do I make sure I pull The string correctly and release it without making my bow snap in half?
@GsyMoo4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the Vid. As always, super clear and positive explanation. Since lockdown I've been getting more bow time and with an eye on your videos my groupings are coming down really nicely By biggest concern is because I'm Big'n'Tall if I anchor Finger to Mouth my draw ends up 32+ inches, the bow (Black Hunter) stacks out and consistency goes out the window. Consequently I anchor the 1st joint of my thumb in to the hollow of the cheek bone below my right eye, which brings my draw down to just over 30 inches and the bow seems happier. Can you give any tips for us Big'n'Tall what to do about over drawing? Is what I'm doing OK or should I consider another way? My apologies if you've addressed this in another vid. Many thanks. 👍
