I also agree that it's really important to know how accurate your thermometer is. I like how you demonstrated that it's important to double check a few times. If a person is relying on a precise temperature, an accurate reading is so important!

Thank you so much for this video. My Ninja foodi grill probe is also 4 to 5 degrees off. When I did the ice test it kept fluctuating between 36 and 37 degrees. Because of what you have taught me I will now start using my grill again. I had basically stopped using it because nothing was coming out right and i really needed it because of physical limitations. Dorothy Hill here..... I just ran this test on my Pro XL Oven built-in probe as well as my other probe. The Pro XL was dead on 32. My other was 32.5 so I am good to go! Thank you Ms. Louise :)

My Ninja Foodi XL is also 5 degrees off like yours. At 32 degrees it reads 37 degrees. Thank you for this video.

Louise, check that thermometer at higher temps also. Sometimes errors show up at extreme lows and highs of range. A grill is not made to deal with freezing. The error may disappear at warmer temps. So warm up water. Check temps with other two thermometers. Then check with grill thermometer. Just saying.

A thermometer should read accurately in ice water, it's the standard way of testing them. You can also do the boiling water method, which I will try, but most of the time if a thermometer is off for the ice bath it will be off for the boing water test as well.

You can't adjust the grill thermometer, I'm not sure about the PC one, and I think you can adjust the thermapen Mk4, but you shouldn't have to. It's a very accurate thermometer and has never needed adjusting for me.

I checked mine at 32deg and it was off 3 degrees, but at 110 in the glass, only 1-2 degrees. I didn’t chech 130 yet. But it is like scales we weigh on. Best accurate is in midrange.

Does the consistent inaccuracy still read that way on the hot side? Boiling water test next.

From what I've read, if it's off for the cold water test, it will be off for the boiling water test. I figured it is easier to do the ice bath test, so I only went over that one.

8:13 I just got my Ninja Foodi Smart XL PRO, so i tried this. It keeps giving me a msg that reads "plug in". It keeps beeping and keeps turning on and off. Any suggestions? Btw, I love your recipes! I can't wait to try them out! I have been looking at them all day.

Love your content thank you. Ive just got the xl pro grill version 651. Ive tried this but as soon as it hits 5 deg centigrade a message comes up saying 'plug in' and the machine keeps switching off and on again. It also wont let me try the boiling water technique as it will only let me pre set it to 80 degree celsius rather than 100 degree. Think im just going to assume it is 5 degrees out and take that off the target temp and see how the meat turns out.

Starting freezing temp is 32°F! Your ice should be colder more like 30 or even 25°F which would make your thormometer off by several degrees!

There’s no guarantee that it’s 4 degrees out at every temperature.

If a thermometer is off by any number of degrees, it will be off by that same number of degrees every temperature you take until you calibrate it.
