heeheee, what a great idea! I just wouldn't want to go there to get them, yucky McDonalds. I guess I would if I were in an art pinch :) For those jumbo straws, just wrap some paper around the pencil before inserting it in, wrap more to make a snug fit :) The rounded pencils can be sanded down with sand paper. Great ideas!

With the loose pencils all you have to do is wind some tape round the end of the pencil to make it thicker.

I use an old BIC pen tube for my extender it works wonderfully also I do not use any ink at all I found the pen LOL

What I've started doing with my Polychromos is sanding the rounded end flat, then supergluing them to a 4" dowel rod. It works great with Gorilla brand superglue, but I've been having problems with Krazy Glue. (Who'd have thought that super glue would be affected by COVID-19 hoarding?) But I managed to get some more Gorilla superglue today, so yay! I've also been using a short length of heatshrink tubing to attach the pencil to the dowel. It works, but when you reach the tubing you have to stop sharpening, whereas with gluing I can keep going till the mouth of the sharpener reaches the dowel which is past the gold banding. Since Polychromos come already sharpened, I can't try gluing the stub to the new pencil. But that's okay; Polychromos makes up for this in other ways. ;-D

I use sanding paper too for the rounded pencils. It works great. Instead of a dowel I use a cheap graphite pencil. That way I can sharpen the tiny stub all the way through the glue and waste nothing. I have to try the Gorilla glue. It sounds better than the one I use. Thanks for the tips.

@@Sandrinesgallery My problem with that is that I want extenders when the pencil gets down to about 3.5 inches, and the thought of trying to color with a 10 inch pencil is a little daunting. Oh, well-- we each have our preferred solutions!

I bought a box of 144 golf pencils from Amazon for a good price. it's more convenient than the long pencils. oh you use a dab of super glue btw.

The golf pencils are a great idea as long as they don't come pre-sharpened. Great tip!

They come presharpened but I break the lead tip and glue the short colored pencil to the other end. I like it because I can use the pencil down to the last little bit.

Does the pencils ever break apart? It's hard to imagine the glue is strong enough to hold it together especially during sharpening.

Yes it can break apart when sharpening if you're not careful. But when you're used to it, you can easily sharpen it to the very last bit.
