Lol, when I went to Ace Hardware to get a new brass rod, the salesman was asking what they are used for. I replied, what I use them for is different than most people. I use them to pound out stuck bullets in barrels. Their eyes looked odd for a second then they nodded and said yeah, I guess that makes sense.

I have some fiberglass rod from an old dome tent .
@FullLeadTaco2 жыл бұрын
That probably works great in some applications (still prefer solid rods). In this case however, with all the stuff stuck in this barrel, a fiberglass rod would have splintered.
@jamespollard16702 жыл бұрын
@@FullLeadTaco Your probably right . I've never had a squib to try it out .
@FullLeadTaco2 жыл бұрын
@@jamespollard1670 the fiberglass rods would probably work ok for the single bullet squibs or a stuck case, but when there's more than that, gotta be careful to not use something that will splinter, snap or break and add to the mess.

@FullLeadTaco2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, as reloaders, we are conscious of squibs and such so we tend to not fire a second or third round into the barrel. A lot of new shooters who shoot factory ammo pull the trigger until it won't go anymore.

Would wooden dowel rods cut in short sections be too weak? I saw someone else on another channel use those, so I have several sizes in my range bag. But have wondered if they'll just smash down and/or break. Thanks for the great videos! Love your channel. Please tell Al to make more 9mm bevel base molds (your economy load) that are more than 2-cavity :) can never get him in email or on the phone. Busy guy

Don't use wood. It can break, splinter, and wedge beside the bullet making the situation way worse. Use a brass rod or if you can't find that a taped up aluminum rod.
@FullLeadTaco2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, don't use wood for stuck bullets, it can splinter or break apart and add to the stuck crap in the barrel

All the naysayers about not using metal rods live in fantasy land. I beat the hell out of that round with a hardened rod for like 20 mins straight but after drilling it out and then doing a good cleaning and copper wire brushing the barrel there was not a single scratch or blemish

I have 1 300 aac round stuck in my barrel but it barely not even fully entered barrel. It's probably halfway entered and half still in the chamber. I cannot get it out with my ramrod that's decently thick. I started lightly tapping and when that didn't work I started tapping harder even with a hammer and still no luck. Letting it soak in penetrant right now

I do it hydraulically, much easier! 1.Place muzzle end on soft surface topped with a thick plastic bag 2. Fill up bore and chamber with water 3. Position dowel in chamber mouth. I use an undersized dowel with a couple of O rings on the end. 4. Whack dowel and enjoy an unobstructed bore. This is particularly useful with rifle barrels
@murphytoadster98643 ай бұрын
Lead mushrooms under pressure so tapping won't work unless you drill out the main mass.

I just experienced my first squib EVER (Gloc 29). I didn't know what is was yesterday, but now I do. After the first rd was stuck, The 2nd shot ruined the barrel via ballooning. New GLCO 29 barrel +/- $170 Tip: I will stop shooting cheap ammo. It ends up costing more in the long run.

I got it out but, Soaking had no affect... Had a hardened rod that I was beating with a regular sized hammer and it would not budge. So I used my shop press... It would just bend and force the rod. So I didn't wanna mess up my barrel, so I look really long, like roughly 20" 1/4" drill bit and drilled out the main mass of the bullet, then I was able to easily tap out that bullet with the rod and a tiny hammer . So in the future if this happens again don't waste your time if it won't easily tap out jus drill it first. Remember this round was only barely in the barrel maybe like 3/4 in the pipe and .25 still in the chamber so it was really stuck in there
