Thank you for the videos. I would like to know after you find your values. Watt comes next , how do you match your values, with your colour wheel. I don't understand . Thanks for the respond. ( maybe silly question?)

You don't need to match values to the color wheel except to understand the inherent value of each pure color as it appears on the wheel. Yellow is the lightest, then as the colors move around the wheel from yellow to yellow-orange- to orange, etc, colors get gradually darker in value. You can squint - close one eye, and squint with the other- to see this progression. Hope this helps.

The value wheel is to help locate values you are looking at in nature. It doesn't correlate with the color wheel. It's just a took for helping us to locate value differences when we have trouble seeing them without a tool. What's next is to mix the value we're seeing it and paint.

Great tool demo. Did you use gesso because it drys slower than titanium white or?

Candace, either gesso or titanium white works. Gesso is cheaper and works just as well.

How do you determine what is 2, 4, 6 & 8?

The traditional value scale uses the number 1 to indicate the lightest light (white) and the number 7 as the darkest dark (black). Later, the 10-degree value scale was introduced which listed the darkest dark as 10. Values are arranged in equal degrees between the two extremes so that in the 7-value scale, value 4 is in the middle. In the 10-degree scale values 5 and 6 sit in the middle value range. All these are just guides, like a thermometer, to give us a language with which to define a value.

Why not just paint the lid and drill 4 holes in it !...it will be pretty tough.

Good idea, Paul. There could be a number of variations on Jim's idea.
