Quick Tutorial - Realistic Depth of Field in Photoshop

Let's face it, the Gaussian Blur filter does not deliver really realistic results. In this quick tutorial I will show you how to use the Quick Mask mode to create gradual selections and create a more realistic depth of field in Photoshop using the much more accurate Lens Blur Filter.

Excellent tutorial, thank you. If I may make one suggestion, it would be to first show us how to do the main concept, the "linear" gradient, then when you're completely finished with that, suggest how to make a different type of gradient instead of switching to a different direction for something else in the middle of the main focus. This will be less confusing and keep people riveted on your tutorial.

How did you, at around 0:48, Duplicate the Background, and wind up with regular Layer (as opposed to a copy of the background?)

Hi there, have you heard of "photo SFX art" (just search on Google for it ...)? There you will find a nice free video explaining the way to make better photographs. This made it easier for Daniel to shoot photographs that have a wow-effect after you look at them. I hope it will work for you as well.
