[Quick Video] How 3-Zone HVAC (Heating and Cooling) Works in My Home

This is the 3-zone HVAC system before I begin to work on the alignment. The previous owners of the house designed the branches from the trunk to be a 3-zone system but did not utilize it correctly. I am showing how it works at this point and I will be working and posting to show how I re-align so that each zone represents each floor of the house.

What happens if you change the wall thermostats to another brand like Google Nest or Ecobee? Will they still control the dampers?

Yes certainly! I am using Google Nest for two of the three zones

My condenser isn't working and there are no lights on the Z311. Any ideas? Should I replace the entire panel?

Very informative video. Was it a big job (in terms of cost and effort) to realign each zone so that each zone represents a specific level/floor (top, main and basement)?

My project was less than $500 project. Ducting materials are not that expensive. It wasn’t too difficult because I could access most of the stemming parts of the ducts. I think it depends on how easily you can access the ducts and if you have the space to play the arrangement with. Thanks for watching!!

@@hammerandrake OK, good to know that. My basement is finished (Ryan homes) and so I don’t have access to my HVAC ductwork. I wanted to isolate my basement and control it with its own thermostat as Zone 3. Instead the basement ductwork is grouped together with the first floor as one zone (Zone 1) and because the thermostat is in the first floor, the temperature in the basement is never optimal.

I moved into a house with the same system do the thermostats each control different floors and will it be fine is someone wants the heat and someone wants the ac?

That wouldn’t work unfortunately unless you have two separate HVACs
