Daves outdoors willow bark contains asprin if one is allergic to asprin I wouldn't recommend doing that project but use another wood I use wooden plunger handles and brooms even deet antlers found while foraging for branches to make shillaglahs and spoons 🐾🦊👍🇬🇧

Love your videos, I carved with some lime & use willow a lot for sculpting! But had no idea I could carve it & have lots in my garden! Could I use dogwood too? Also what other wood is easy to get hold of to carve please? I’m based in Devon uk & would be great ful for any info! Thanks Nikki & keep the videos coming as you explain really well 😊 thank you

For the whistles I've only really had success with willow and sycamore using this method, you need a particularly sap filled wood for the bark to slide off. As for carving other things though, use what you can get, I currently have stockpiles of sycamore, bay, apple and hazel and come winter ill have a load of willow again. I find offering to help neighbours and friends in trimming trees often pays off well 😊

Does it have to be a tree with green bark? I don’t know what kind of trees are around my house

You need a wood that's very "juicy" and full of sap so that when you bruise the bark it separates from the wood. Happy whittling!
