Quickly Create Magic Movies with your Existing Videos in iMovie

iMovie has just had a major update that brings with it two awesome new features. The first of these, Magic Movie, is covered in this short and easy-to-follow tutorial video.
We all know about the Memories feature in Photos, where your device will automatically make a little highlights video of an event or occasion. Magic Movie is similar to this, but with an absolute ton more customisability. You can select media and iMovie will use clever Machine Learning to make a Magic Movie out of it. Then you can edit each clip, add a theme, titles and soundtrack. It's great as a 30-second tap-and-done or as a more in-depth starting point for an edit.

hey! so i am trying to make a magic movie but no matter the order i select the videos in they are in backwards chronological order, do you know an easy fix? i know i can move the video around but that would take at least an hour

The app shows the timeline for each clip but decides not to use it. I have to believe it is a bug rather than a feature otherwise it's not worth bothering with

So I’ve seen a few comments about this and I’ve been trying to figure it out myself. I’ve made about 8 different Magic Movies now and I’ve not had that problem on any of them. It definitely seems like a bug to me! You can send the iMovie team a message here (www.apple.com/feedback/imovie-ios-ipados.html) and they’ll hopefully get it fixed for a future update. I’ve sent them big reports before on that link and they have been good at getting them fixed so 🤞🏻!

Hi I’ve imported 65 pix and magic movie does not show them in the chronological order. Is there a way to reverse the order? It’s magic okay but the film created starts with the end of the event… it’s really not convenient. I’ve tried to import in both orders but the result is similar, the last picture comes first and moving them one by one is no longer magic! Thanks for your help

How do you make it stop with the Ken Burns edit. It bothers me so much. It’s all zoomed in on my videos and I can only see the sky when there are actual people in the frame below. Since the update- I don’t see an option to remove the Ken burns zoom in and out feature anymore. So frustrating.

Is there a way to change the focal point of a photo or video using Magic Movie? When I try and do it, it shows the top half of the photo which is just the background, and I can’t change the focus to the actual product image. Is there a way to pinch and zoom etc. using this feature? Thank you!

How do I change smooth transition from one clip to next ? it dose not allow me to change the transition . Some of it has A star between two clips and some has a straight line. I want to make it all in start so transition from one clip to another looks smooth ? Please help.

Annoyingly it's iPad and iPhone only for the time being. There was an iMovie update for Mac but it only lets you open those projects - not create them. I hope it's something that changes in the future.

I've just been exploring that myself and I don't see any way to do it! You can import from the Files App (and therefore an External Drive) on a normal iMovie Timeline project, but not on the Magic Movies or Storyboards. This seems like a bit omission to me. I'm going to file it as Feedback to iMovie, I suggest you do the same! www.apple.com/feedback/imovie.html

I’m finding that you can only add an audio file to the whole project not individual clips. The audio file (music) has no separate way of editing like IMovie on the Mac. Soundtracks Aldo is just for the whole project. Do I have this right?
