"Missile Command" by ‪@QuicksandNYCvideo‬ from the album 'Distant Populations', available now
Order at quicksand.ffm....
Quicksand is Alan Cage, Walter Schreifels, and Sergio Vega
Written by Quicksand
Produced and Engineered by Will Yip
Recorded at Studio 4 Recording, Conshohocken, PA
Mixed by Josh Wilbur
Mastered by Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound, NYC
Lyrics
There is no reason for this collision
Apologies rain all season, forever
I love you now more than I ever did
When it rains I can’t change your mind
True worlds bring
As lights fill up the sky
You better get used to it
Wishing you were here for this decision
I don’t want to be wrong
I don’t want to mislead
Stations of our present
You’re more than I’ll ever need
Can’t explain why you change your mind
And it rains
True worlds bring
As lights fill up the sky
You better get used to it
It takes its own shape

Epitaph Records is an artist-first indie label founded in Los Angeles by Bad Religion guitarist, Brett Gurewitz. Early releases from a variety of punk heavyweights helped launch the 90s punk explosion. Along the way, Epitaph has grown and evolved creatively while sticking to its mission of helping real artists make great recordings on their own terms.

I remember in high school, walking into my local record shop and seeing posters for the new Slip album. Immediately bought it and grabbed a couple of the posters too. Went home and listened to it over and over. It immediately became my favorite album of the 90's and Quicksand has been one of my favorite bands ever since. Sucks that we can't really do that nowadays like we used to be able to. Something about the process of going into the local shop, having the store clerks know you and your music preferences to talk about stuff and make recommendations and then looking through bins of albums and discovering something cool that you'd take a chance on and go home and listen to was super fulfilling. Love that it's so easy to discover new music nowadays online, but sorta miss the way we would do things in the past too.

Definitely a disconnect in finding new music today. I remember music sampler tapes at our local CD store that would have awesome bands on them, then would end up buying the album afterwards

Totally. I'm 45 now but am super lucky to still have the record store that I've been going to since highschool with the same owner just down the street. I buy a lot of digital music but I make sure to go to Music Town and buy the cds and vinyl from my fav bands. It hasn't changed one bit and its one of the most comforting things in the world to me

I like having online streaming to discover music but I still like going into my local record stores which luckily my city has a ton and digging through the bins and checking out kool looking covers and discovering the music that way sometimes, the guys who work here usually like to chat out local shows and new music to check out

Sergio Vega is literally the bassist for this band who took over for Chi Cheng in deftones, they’ve actually been around longer than deftones. ‘Manic Compression’ is probably their best, most deftones sounding album that I highly recommend.

Except Quicksand were the inventors of this type of sound first. I'm sure they're all good friends, too... after all, both bands share the same bassist. It's great to hear them sounding more like the early Quicksand stuff, rather than "Interiors".. although, that album is very cool as well in it's own right.

I like Walter a lot and I'm fan of Rival Schools. But I've not been impressed with Quicksand on anything following Manic Compression. To be honest, I even thought Manic Compression was a step down from Slip. The last release just sounded like a new Rival Schools LP. I think the loss of Tom has an impact on the dynamics of the sound. This song isn't bad, but putting it out under the Quicksand name a think diminishes the sonics and amazing work the band popped onto the scene with the early 90s.

I know we are all older now but I just dont hear it anymore. The groove is gone. That is just my opinion. Ill remember the good times in 1993 when they had to stop the show at the Roxy in LA because it was too packed. Whoever left that night got tickets to the show. Idk, this entire song is based off of a groove, there’s dissonant guitar cords, and the drumming is savage. His voice is less aggressive but this is honestly best thing I’ve heard from them since slip. It’s obviously different, but nothing worth being bummed out over. There’s definitely fire in this song I think your expectations are just getting in the way of seeing it.

I love Quicksand, I really do, but this is horribly dated and sounds like it came off a compilation of mid 90's grunge bands you never heard of. In fact, if somebody told me it was a Nudeswirl B-Side I'd be happy to believe them, so can we all stop acting like theyre doing something new.
