As the description states, this is my second ever solo flight.
I definitely have some room for improvement. Especially when it comes to radio communication.
Please feel free to comment and thank you for watching!

I fixed the radio interference issue! Ferrite chokes, lots of them... I'll put it in a video, but I'm not sure how long it'll take before it's posted. So here's the rundown: I bought two of the following kits from Amazon: "Ceedmon 20 Pieces Clip-on Ferrite Ring Core RFI EMI Noise Suppressor Cable Clip for 3mm/5mm/7mm/9mm/13mm Diameter Cable, Black" I put one on each of the spark plug wire near where they get secured to the engine. I used extra zip-ties to ensure the don't go through the prop. I then put one on each end of the antenna cable, one (or more where possible) on the headphone, mic and PTT cables. Create a loop in the cable and use a larger ferrite clamp wherever possible. It's not perfect... but, it made a night and day difference. Hope it helps someone else out there too!

Mashed all the buttons. Glad you have the radio chatter. Don't watch flying videos without it. Looking forward to following along. Great Job!

This is awesome. I've started to get really interested in ultralight flight. I'm hoping one day I'll be able to get one of these as well. Also nice seeing someone that's pretty close to home too, I just live on the other side of the canyon haha

Hey Austin, that's awesome! Ultralights are really fun. They are a little sketchy compared to real planes though. Some people say that they are something to grow into after you learn to fly to a regular plane. I definitely recommend some sort of training. But, to each his own 🤘. That's really cool that you're so close!

I'm glad someone else has as much trouble with the radio as I do. My QS makes so much radio interference its hard for people to hear me when I'm at full-pull. Gliding no problem. Fellow Ham also.

Hey Matt! Sounds like we have similar interests! Yeah, the radio interference at full throttle is really bad. I added some clamp-on ferrite beads to all of the radio, headset, and antenna cables. It didn't help much. I'm thinking about adding some ferrite beads next to the spark plug boots here in a few days. I'm still trying to find a good solution for a quality mic muff as well.

@@RabbitHoleAdventures I think the mic audio is good until the EMI from the ignition system at full throttle gobbles it up. I'm running a Sena BT to yaesu radio. Ferrites on the power supply to the radio, Open face paramotor style helmet, Antenna is mounted out at the wingtip, which, so-far has been the biggest improvement. Homemade 5/8 wave. Mine needs work also but the messages are getting out.

Audio communication could be better however, video and flight setup is very good. I would like to know how much these Quicksilver Ultralights go for, and where does one look for when planning a new or slightly used one. We can only them for about 6-7 months in Minnesota. Thanks..
@RabbitHoleAdventures
@RabbitHoleAdventures 11 ай бұрын
I think a Quicksilver will typically run for $5,000-$10,000 used. Roughly $20k new. You can check on Barnstormers.com or some of the many ultralight Facebook groups. Their are some Quicksilver specific FB groups that have for sale listings quite often.

For a low time pilot you’re doing extremely well. Including on the radio. Great job. You must’ve had radio experience before. Military?

Beautiful views and happy second solo. I’m planing on buy one ultralight. I’m new on all this about ultralight. Any suggestion to select a quicksilver instead of an Aerolite 103? I mean, assuming that you evaluated these options when you decided to select the Quicksilver. Thanks.

Hey Fernando, thanks for watching! I had a couple of reasons for going with the Quicksilver. I did some research and found that they were by far the most popular ultralight. They are tried and true. The manufacturer has been around FOREVER, and the parts and support are readily available. It didn't hurt that I found two of them listed for sale in my local area. The green one that I own now was well kept and had lots of upgrades. I couldn't pass it up. I really like my Quicksilver. I am interested in, and would like to fly a few of the other Ultralights such as the Aerolight 103, Airbike, and especially the Chinook. I do wish I had a windshield or enclosed cabin for the winter months 🤣 Here's a video I found on this topic: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5TZia2sjK2ti9ksi=knNXk1tFPLA3s68S

I liked everything about the vid except the volume of the audio! Inflight if you could majorly reduce the music volume so we can hear the radio work that’d be great. I had to just mute the vid for the volume of the music.

@@RabbitHoleAdventures Are the telemetry overlays through DaVinci, maybe a plugin?
@RabbitHoleAdventures
@RabbitHoleAdventures Жыл бұрын
@commentatron they are from my GoPros or Insta360 camera. They're kind of a pain though. For GoPro videos, you have to download all of the videos to your phone, then add the telemetry through the GoPro app, then export them to your computer... then edit them into a video. I haven't added them from the insta360 yet because you need an additional $80 remote. I've had a hard time with my remote so far.. first, it either recorded either only the sky or my toes. Then, for this video, I thought it was on and recording, but it stopped immediately after I started it.. Pretty upsetting. Those shots would have added a lot to this video.
