*QB reviews old gameplay, and T30 appears* QB: DID YOU KNOW....
@SpeedyCraft5111 сағат бұрын
People did *not* fire gold in random battles *because* it was so expensive. Gold that you earned on the global map was re-invested only for the global map because nobody could afford to waste it on standard battles. Your first replay is from a clan battle as you can tell by every team having players from the same clan and the fog-of-war mechanic. "It was really bad back then" no, it was good, because armor was meaningful in random battles, maybe 1% of players would be using gold ammo there, and if they were it was not much. In exchange we had actual weakspots on tanks. This was by far the superior system because gold was scarce and people had to think about their usage. Now you can just load full gold, ignore armor unless the vehicle you are facing is completely busted, and it's just as pay2win in the sense that without a premium account and premium tanks you cannot afford as much. They added one middle step to the pay2win element that made it somehow more acceptable and the result is it's the only viable way to play instead of a very rare occurence if not exclusive to clan wars.

Totally agreed. Balance is totally wack now because premium ammo has ruined it. Before all tanks would have the same base stats that were all balance the same and that's armour was balanced to be as historically accurate except for a few exceptions to deal with being overmatched too much. Now due to the excessive use of premium ammo starting from the last couple of years, armour is now a balance able stat which is now fantasy levels but only made it harder for anyone using standard ammo while still only becoming a bit useful vs premium ammo. Apart from balancing becoming worse? Tanks now die so fast that the lopsided matches that everyone criticises occur more frequently and starts quicker because tanks die too fast too early on and tanks meant to hold a flank just cannot do that anymore. So a flank can get steamrolled so quickly that the other flank has no time to adequately react to stop the steamroll.

There are many quality-of-life features that we have now that I like that we didn’t have in the past. BUTTT…. I believe the core game in 2013-2015 was at its peak. It was slower and unique compared to other FPS games, more methodical and intelligent with regards to armor play, and with more diverse and interesting tank role distributions and battles.

Started playing in 2011 to , almost 14 years later still have under 30k battles played it on and of during most of it's major patches , casually dabbled in some clan wars was part of some competitive clans for a bit. Been around the game as a casual player for most of it's existence. The game used to be decent. The game today is a joke , the power creep has made it almost unplayable for people who are not wallet warriors. The huge number of OP premium tanks , the fast pace , the unbalanced matchmaking , the fact that tanks can just fly around the map has removed any sort of tactics and strategy from it. It's just a game for clowns and autists now that invested to much money and time to quit this filth. Back in the day , outdated graphics , and clunkiness aside the allure of the game was it's slow pace tanks that actually felt like tanks slow heavy very hard to penetrate , you had to commit to a zone on the map , once there there was no turning back , you had to anticipate what will happen , had to think in advance what you were going to do. The game required you to use your brain , today that's replaced by using your wallet , spamming gold and buying the latest OP gimmick tanks from all sorts of gambling mechanics , manufactured scarcity and all those garbage business practices most garbage studios do. Tier 8 premium tanks that hit harder than hard earned tier 10's , that's just not right , that's blatant in your face pay to win. WOT and Wargaming = trash The only time I bother with the game is in December because I collected all the annual commanders/ actors after that is done I uninstall and don't want to hear about the game for the next 11 months not even if someone payed me to play it.

@MiGLifeCrisis i havent played this game in a long time so im going off memory here. theres a tech tree t44 (imagine t44 and t44-100 in one that can also mount a 122mm) which progresses this way 85mm zis -> 85mm d5t -> 122mm or 100mm. but wg made t44 premiums: tier 7 t44 with 85mm (pretty sure thats very rare), tier 8 t44-100 (which is what a spaded tech tree t44 is) and t44-122 (the actual one with that hunched driver port like you see in war thunder as a premium). IIRC the t44-100 premium has 50 more hitpoints, better ground resistance for minimally less engine hp, and sideskirts (like you see in wt) over the spaded tech tree t44. essentially its the same but better. its like the tiger ost pack that released in war thunder, the premium tigers dont have the s-mines that block your gun, more armour, camo nets and the ostwind even has ostketten while the tech tree doesnt.

I think the herald of wot's downfall was the Chrysler K which was released in 2017. It marked a change in Wargamings approach to new tanks and new premiums aswell. The tank was overpowered at the time and had no frontal weakspots, making goldspam a requirement and it went downhill from there. Nowadays its kind of COD with extra armor with everyone spamming gold left right and center.
@MarcioK8 сағат бұрын
I consider the Mutz being the turning point. It is not OP, but was the first premium tank that was as good as a good regular one - before it, all the premiums make more credits but were worse than the tech tree ones.

@VsUK11 сағат бұрын
I say yes in a very strong way. Up to October 2012, you could compete regardless if someone dumped a load of gold into their tanks, which was only obtainable with gold until October when it changed to credits. Before this, you didn't have as many players using it because of how expensive it was. Also, they hadn't yet started messing with tank armour by removing all the existing weak spots to make it harder for regular ammo users to pen. Before all that, the game was actually about tactics & team play. Now its just who can spam the most gold & it really made the game boring.

I started playing in the closed beta on a review account, my personal account is from April 2011. Back then in 2012, 2011 and especially before in the closed beta and alpha you could feel the weight of the vehicle. The tanks turned slowly, moved even more so, the game engine couldn't handle the movement of the faster vehicles, so the truly fast tanks kind of teleported on your screen, and the tier 9 mediums were thus able to outplay tier 10 heavies. The game looked horrible, so you weren't easily distracted. The battles took more time, and because you didn't have any information about the other flanks, people used chat and the game was way more tactical - you had one repair kit, one med kit, you were saving the repair kit for your ammorack and your med kit for your commander, because the sixth sense was a perk you needed to train. Light tanks required a really decent player skill, as you were oneshotted by tier 10 heavies such as E100s or T30s. You needed to be smarter than your opponent to outplay them, not just sit in the hulldown position and spam gold. Plebs didn't have gold. If you didn't get into a clan and farmed gold in clan wars, you didn't have any. Overall, the game was slower and arguably more fun because of all this clunkiness you mentioned. At least to me. So yea, back to your question - the game was better imho. Yes, the game has improved, looks better, arguably is fairer in regards of premium ammunition and how the new players are able to grind (or buy) their way to tier 10s. But in terms of entertainment? The game was more niche, more unique, more fun. Nowadays, in my honest opinion, World of Tanks is way closer to a generic shooter. To me World of Tanks peeked in 2014 with the HD 9.x updates.

I created my account in 2014, I remember the days of unequal matchmaking, it was definitely a more 'pure' time of the game where it didn't feel like you needed to buy a premium tank to win. Playing tier 6-7 lights and getting tier 10 matches was fun, being able to platoon with different tiers, eg I play a tier 8 and someone else in my platoon plays a tier 7 and then of course all chat. Some very good things have been taken from this game, but all in all its definitely better these days over all, I just can't believe how far the game has come.

It was a lot less toxic in the player base. It's near enough 12 years to the day that I started playing. Lots of changes, the game does look rough at that time mainly as it was designed to run on one cpu core regardless of how powerful your pc was, probably to keep everyone on par, esp in the Eastern EU and RU regions and the kit they had available. The sweet spot was probably around the time physics were put in and the spotting mechanism was improved as half the time a vehicle could be crossing in front of you and you wouldnt see them until they were nearly in cover.

Gold ammo for actual gold only.... On one hand it was P2W, but on the other hand it was better as only tiny fraction of percentage of players were using it as "main" ammo, so tanks with armour were actually playable & you needed to aim for weak-spots or lean how to hide your weak-spots. I am not sure, but allowing to buy premium ammo for credits, from a time perspective was a huge mistake... I mean the game is p2w anyway with all those premium tanks... and most of them (better ones) you can not simply go & buy.

Back then, we used to use the original "side scraping" to bog down enemy tanks. You'd drive side to side to inhibit their movement and just grind the hulls together to drop their movement down to next to nothing. That's how low-tier tanks fighting a Maus could survive -- it couldn't depress its gun enough against some tanks. Or you could lock down turretless TDs. I remember when people began using the term side scraping for shooting, and we were like, 'wtf are they talking about?' People used to call that angling or reverse angling.

As someone who was playing ages ago(I believe I was only an early [Jan] 2014er), I have to say no. The lack of auto intuition and repair kits being automatic made it way more painful. While the average player was weaker, it also meant that spenders had big advantages. I do have to agree that it was almost unmatched year for year. Of course, modern wot has a lot of issues, such as the 30000000 overtuned premiums and relentless gold spam in every tier in every random battle, but I feel like the consumable and crew changes have been very nice. Not having intuition made either grinding a new crew hard or for new players gave them a huge disadvantage.

I started playing in patch 8.2 and I was absolutely horrible at the game. Didn’t make it past tier 5 for over a year as a free player (also just didn’t really know the actual game progression). Still have memories of seeing my first KV1 and thinking wtf how does he have 640 HP?! Pre 8.6 was peak for me personally, before the first arty nerf. As I was playing on a very potato family laptop at the time, arty was one of the only classes I could play somewhat comfortably, and I loved the game. Of course I hated getting hit, but as others already mentioned, it’s so much nicer to just take 1000 damage in one shell from a t92 than it is to take it spread over 3 shells and three minutes, half of which are spent stunned. Made people think more about poking corners and map positioning to avoid arty shells. I still play now, but I always go back and watch some old Jingles videos and cry a little inside, wishing that I wasn’t 13 years old with no money to spend when I started playing, wishing I could take part in early CW and global map campaigns. Alas, all I can do now is play the game I once used to love and can’t seem to let go due to nostalgia. Playing WoT, and by extension watching jingles when I was younger actually helped me learn English as a language.

WoT 2012-2015 will always be special place in my heart Thanks to WoT Developers for making the new game modes Frontline, SH, Mirny, Waffentrager events make the game even more fun and traditional for me.

Matchmaking, balance of the game was better, I remember when I joined in 2013, my friends were describing premium tanks as: "Great credit makers, but usually weaker than tech tree tanks". Other than that, graphics, physics of the game is way better now.
@zeroyuki9211 сағат бұрын
Just saying that while premium tanks balance are definitely way better, but old version balancing of other tanks are very wack.

I started with WoT in 2012 and for me it was more fun than today. Gold ammunition was gold ammunition, and this was fine. Without physics the game was strange, you couldn't fall of a cliff, the game just stopped you instantly. Made a break from 2014 to 2023, but nowadays playin once a week or so...

The main thing i miss is when HE was actually somewhat helpful for talkng out super heavily armored tanks. When derps were viable in most situations

2015-2017 was the BEST years of WOT there was a lot of new things coming in, lots of players, its was better then. now? yeah its a game that more polished but its and OLD game. so there's something to say there I got the game in the fall of 2014 after seeing an episode of Great tank bottles on TV history channel. Sadly The tank I wanted to get, M18 Hellcat, was NERFED that same week just days prior. never got to play the OG hellcat

2012-2016 WOT was my jam, I loved the hell out of it.. I used to remember all the tank names back then.. it was much easier to keep track. I remember playing on the US servers from Australia before SEA existed, the lag made the tank feel more authentic.. hah! I did like the clunkiness, tanks shouldn't be able to snap shot like they do in the game now. I'd have to agree 2016 was the peak.. :)

Great video! I started playing in 2015 and I got to say WOT has come a long way! You have had a lot to do with that QB!

I started playing WoT.. Hmm, somewhere in the 1st week of Sept. 2010... and still have been till nowadays. I wanted to feel the Thrill back in the day, the Hunt for the unique shiny medals, side by side with your Wingman, sharing the Victory and the Joy! Not just only the kills or the damage, as everyone is today. Clan Wars were a different case, more Strategic, Gold ammo was different, it was something like.. owning Gold Bars being rich in a way, back in the day. I miss those days... Loads and loads of good, nostalgic memories... and the Most important thing.. it was that you had the chance to meet new friends and still be with Them till.. Today! This is..Unique! 🏅

Back when I enjoyed A LOT playing light tanks since you can find yourself brawling with bigger and bigger tanks. T50-2 was a beast in good hands, Chaffee was the real Chaffee. But most of all armor had a meaning.

I wish I was playing in 2012. I kept seeing adds for wot but didn't have the time as my life was completely consumed by addiction, I was only on warcraft and that ended in 2013. I finally got my life back in 2017 and started gaming again. Got into tanks, ships and planes on 2022.

Besides the polishing part of the game and QoL changes to the game it was so much better back in the days. Mainly because the tanks used to have meaning to their armour. When the armour basically went from “okay every tank has some weak spot” to “every tank is impenetrable or suffers to gold round spam” was when I stopped playing. Also the fact that premium tanks used to be worse counterparts to their equivalent that made more credits. I hated this change because it used to be in a way that when I encountered some strong tank facing me I felt motivated to start grinding that research tree and get that tank. When I lost that option because most strong tanks that looked fun to play were premium I knew that I don’t want to spend that much money just to have fun in a game since to grind some tank used to be fun in itself. After that I kinda lost the motivation to play because sure everybody who was paying had more fun but everybody else suffered.

Yes well as a NA player we had about 40-60k players online back then. Meaning every teir was filled with a on of players. So if you were working on a tier 7 the majority of the matches were top tier or tier 8 with the rare occasion of tier 9 battles. Now in days you trying to grind a tier 7 you get into matches with op premium tanks which are now tier 8 and 9

I started my account in March 2016, for like 4 months prior to that I was playing WOT Blitz, and I miss for those years is that there weren't that amount of op tanks, it was almost all tech tree... You really needed to know how to play your vehicle

Playing since 2011. And yes. It all went down since they started take away all the tanks you honestly grinded and purchased. They took me WTE100 and SU-122-54, two of the best tanks I ever had. Instead of them they gave me some ripoff cheapo craps. I want my honestly deserved tanks back!

I loved it when we had games like this. I quite WoT in 2012 though because of the insane arty damage back then, and the fact that it was pretty common to have 3-4 arties that could one-shot a tier 10 heavy.

The OG M24 with the +5 MM was OP as i think it was the last one standing of the 3 to be nerfed. 2014-2017 were the best years. It hurts to go back and dabble. The game feels like a husk of its former self.

I started playing in 2012 and i am still playing it... although the fun part is mostly gone, playing it from inertia, maybe? Definitely a bit of curiosity as to when they will balance the mm if ever. And also for the ever so rare ace medal games. I won't get into the gold ammo topic, all i have to add has been already said above. I will only say that i remember dearly logging in in the evening and the team channel was full with people, there were so many friends, you could fight clan battles or just platoon, we were gathered there from so many countries also... it made the evenings so much fun. Fun lasted up until 2014-2015, i'd say that was the core, the peak of people that were playing it back then. Aftwerwards, people stopped logging in, i also swapped some clans, but it was kind of same, i still have some of those friends in my list but they haven't logged on in years. Moved along. Even my friend who introduced me and mentored me to the game quit around 2016-2017, sold his main account.The game keeps on going with newer players and for me this shows a lot, quicker battles, zero strategy, one flank lemmings etc. Such a shame

Another thing hardly talked about is that the starting world of tanks had a much much higher ratio of real:fake tanks. In fact, most of the tanks in original world of tanks either did exist or had at least been prototyped. And this was a real driver in getting people interested in the game.

Compared to when the game was in beta, it's changed quite a bit. Overall it keeps getting better, even though at times became very frustrating with some changes making the game impossible to play certain classes.
@cjian928 сағат бұрын
1 unpopular opinion is, the imbalanced mm back then, (not 1:1 heavy to heavy, medium to medium matchmaking) is actually more unique. If you have all mediums vs all heavies, or you have more French autoloaders than the enemy team, you need to rush early game. These are imo some of the most fun I had in WoT, it is more team based, more tactical.
@Seltheros9 сағат бұрын
There is a reason Classic team made a modpack resembling the 8.2 version. It was the best of the best. Graphics, sound, gameplay. 2012-2013 was peak World of Tanks, you could see it in advertisments, TV, etc. Without hesitation I would switch to it in an instant if WG (or smbdy else) would bring it back.

Honestly, regarding the gold rounds, I'd very much prefer if they stayed for gold only. The amount of premium ammo flying through the air has been absurd back when WG made it available for credits and things only got way worse since then...

The mechanics and graphics for sure the meta not so much Back then you needed too learn the weak spots and aim properly now it is just lower plate and gold spam The pen indicator , op t8 premiums ,gold rounds without limitation and the slow removal of weakspots made the game worse The other stuff like physics the minimap circles etc were good but didn't save the fun that the previous noted thinks broke
@theducking88278 сағат бұрын
Everything was better in 2012, sound effects, no gold, diverse maps, no sweaty try hards (only a very small number of powerful well recognized clans such as otter, havok, G, purple, etc), no op premiums, and finally the EPIC opening and ingame soundtracks.

I started September 2011. I'm not sure what were the good years, may be 2012-2013? There used to be fun 5 player competitions with gold rewards - from memory: Tier 5 and Tier 8 5 player comps. They also had competitions that had points based teams. For example; 30 tiers - you might take a few tier 8's, a tier 5 scout (ELC), a tier 5 arty etc. I remember a few games where we took a tier 1 tank because we only had 1 point left. They were fun games.

I used to play on console before it was completely ruined in 2020, and similarly I agree that around 2016 was peak WOT. The game was really polished at that point but at the same time we didnt have the crazy amount of overpowered tier 8 premium tanks. I miss the days when people played more tech tree vehicles than premium ones, and it was a great achievement to reach the high tiers.

My first account was in mid-2012 and I have been playing the game for much of the last 12 years ... my favourite time was from late 2012 to end of 2015. I agree with everyone that not being able to afford premium ammo even after switch to credits made me a better player and learning all the tanks weak spots. Matchmaking was brutal and arty was a killer but these days I feel like I am contributing a lot less to every random battle, I barely get more then 3K damage in most battles because its going so fast and I'm not getting any younger in terms of reflexes. I just finished griding all the tech tree tanks I am interested in and I have enough premium tier 8 tanks to be financially stable (half free half paid for) and most of my focus is on tier 9s and a handful of tier 10s for special events (Kran, TVP 50, Mino, Maus, WZ-114) and 2 tier 10s for pure fun (Sh!tbarn and IS-7 for ramming build). I am done paying Wargaming and grinding after this Xmas, just need to get around 20 million credits.

@Phil9265 сағат бұрын
I started WOT in 2018 and it still costed gold for gold rounds. You are quite mistaken that they changed it to credits then. May have been +/-5 match making, but a tier 5 could actually pen a tier 10. Now with +/-3 match making, I've played games with my Patriot where, even with premium the pen indicator is showing orange on the bz176 lower glacis plate ... Both are tier 8. The average tier 6 has absolutely no chance against many tier 8s now.
@MrCleman12 сағат бұрын
That is bs. The change from gold to credits was with patch 0.8.1 which happened in late 2012. First of iggogled it and second I started WoT in early 2012 so I remember the game from bacvk then. It was in 2012, not 2018
@Phil9262 сағат бұрын
@MrCleman1 I double checked my info and I do stand corrected. 2018 is when the option to buy premium with gold was eliminated but NOT when the option to buy with credits was added.
