The advantage of having the outpost on a planet that you may colonize is it will provide a marine barracks, when you do. If the morale boost is not useful to you, the troops should be. Remember they not only defend against an invasion, but allow you to make transport to invade.

This is the only thing you're doing right now I care about! MORE MOO2! MORE MOO2! MORE M... Haha, in all seriousness I love this classic, and I'm trying to learn how to play it better since I'm a scrub (I actually bought a copy on GOG, just so I can also nostalgia play. I still suck though. 😢). I remember playing it well over 20 years ago and still totally sucking. I just may not be great at 4x games, despite really liking them. My brain has too hard of a time switching between the "Sim City" aspect to getting ready for War/Diplomacy/Intrigue. So I often just sit around and build/research and then get killed with very inefficient bases with every building on every colony/planet.

On my missile ships I always put fast missiles for both. The decoys are unmirved and maybe armoured. As long as they are fired after the heavy hitters they will be on top of the stack and the first the enemy ships try to intercept, easy to do just having them next in the weapon order. Missiles faster or launched farther forward than the rest are great for triggering pulsars. Doesn't really work on lightning fields however.

@Karthos10002 жыл бұрын
I always went missile boats split into 8 launchers with 2x missiles in each one so that I could target up to 8 separate ships with a handful of missiles each. Some alien races will rush out productions of battleships with Titanium armor, where any more than a few missiles aren't really needed, so you get the same problem that missiles used to have in Stellaris where you'd hit a single corvette with an apocalyptic number of missiles and waste huge amounts of damage on it.

I really like how your race in MOO1 completely altered how you play. Darlocks invested huge amounts in spying, Sakkra would send huge waves of invasion fleets without caring about them getting shot at, as long as a few made it through to attack there would be another invasion fleet next turn.

@@roberteltze4850 Very True. I loved playing Klackons.
@roberteltze48502 жыл бұрын
@@matthewfischer9983 that reminded me another feature of MOO1 was that each race had techs they were good at and techs they were bad at. Klackons were bad at fuel range techs and sometimes got a bit stuck with few star systems to expand to until they could get longer range but it just wouldn't come up on you research list.

Never discount any alien race. The last game I played the freaking Gnolam, took Orion, and avalanched through the galaxy, killing every other alien race, and taking 2/3's of the systems in the galaxy. Luckily I had established an early game trade agreement with them, so they just left me alone to hunker in my corner of the galaxy and out-tech them.
@Ashalmawia2 жыл бұрын
9:30 you're playing much better than me, so I definitely may be wrong, but I feel like you might be focusing on the wrong part of the buyout. I've never thought much about the cost conversion rate, because to me what matters way more is the cost VS the number of turns saved. you are completely fine spending 84BC to save 1 turn, but won't spend 230BC to save 6 turns? that doesn't make sense to me.
@SSJ3Vegito Жыл бұрын
Just research construction to deep core miner and autobuy all construction types. After that point you should be able to build lower cost items in 1-2 turns until maybe 200 or 250 production cost items.
@lamora62982 жыл бұрын
Getting Mentox is always so overpowered. He would already be amazing without Autolab but with it you can basically colonise anywhere and it will be worth it.
@Scapestoat2 жыл бұрын
22:30 Outpost matters, because you get a free barracks when you colonize an outpost. (Gosh this memory is old!) That matters more if you're a Dictatorship, as the barracks gets rid of the morale malus for them.

I suppose Hide can be useful late game, because there *is* a limit to how many spies you can have assigned to defense or to any one alien empire. It's not a small limit, but it's there.
@jaybea3652 жыл бұрын
Missiles, really? I have only ever used them when I had space left over. Gauss weapons and Torpedo's, with PD lasers(not that they seem to do much of anything) Hide lets spies mostly remain undetected while still gathering info about the race(such as what techs they have)
@davidmills15202 жыл бұрын
Missles are a really powerful trick. You can consistently win on impossible because of them. There is a time when they get outdated, but early on they can change everything.
@Scapestoat2 жыл бұрын
@@davidmills1520 I seem to recall doing early missiles x2 and mass driver auto-firing PD a lot. Even if you don't win the battle, you still kill some ships and then retreat.

Hide for spy’s decreases the chances of being caught by 30, you do this do you can spy on what tech the enemy has without a them trying to get that one useless tech the enemy MIGHT have

26:13 isn't Elerians building transports LITERALLY an AI fail? Like, if they're telepathic, the AI should be hardcoded NOT to build transports since they just push a button to conquer the planet instead of messy ground combat? Only reason you'd ever use them is to shore up your own defensive troops (which I THINK you can do in Moo2, but if so it's such an edge case the AI would never do it wisely anyway)
@roberteltze48502 жыл бұрын
You need at least cruiser size ships to use telepathy to conquer a planet. I've had early wars where cruisers took to long to build so you would have to use destroyers and invade.

Wanted to correct something I said on an earlier video: Quill is right, there's no need for Marine Barracks (other than, well, to have marines) for a Democratic society. I misremembered where the line was there.

If you have a dictatorship marine barracks gives 20% morale boost and gives you some defense from automatically losing an invasion.
