Thank you very much, Christina! 🩷 Yes, it takes a little practice to make the cone free hand but I think it's doable 😉. And it helps when you can further shape it with a cone mold. I didn't have one so I used what I had on hand.

Aww, well that's nice to know that you have them in your own garden, Tabea! 😊🩷 I enjoyed trying to make one foxglove flower for the very first time out of 3mm paper strips. I used about 40 little stems for the entire flower, I can't believe it 🙈.

As always, I enjoy and learn from your videos and always appreciate the time and effort you put into sharing your skills and fascination with quilling. The two things I wish you had included: 1) talking about how your technique for making cones. I can tell that you were doing something deliberate with your index finger and thumb to spiral the paper in a very controlled way, but I don’t understand what exactly you did, even after watching that part 4 times. 2) talking about how to effectively use the cone shaping board. From all the videos I’ve found it seems to be a gradual pushing down of the layers but I don’t have a practical feel for the actual technique. I’m of a certain age when the internet was first becoming public, instead of being restricted to military use. I remember as a child going out in the wee hours to watch Sputnik moving across the night sky. And then watching Neil Armstrong step on the moon. I feel quite privileged to now use my high speed internet connection to be able to watch such a talented artist’s video only 4 hours after she posted it to KZbin. It's fascinating for me to hear that you enjoy doing paper quilling even at your age, and you want to learn much more. Really nice to hear that! Yes, making the art itself, filming myself work on it, then editing the videos - all this does take time and effort to make. I'm happy that I can still share my love for the paper quilling art here on KZbin, and it's always a joy when I hear from other people who want to learn about this form of art. Haha 😁, when you said you watched a part of the video 4 times you reminded me of myself when I first started learning to do quilling. I would study other people's works like that! 1) When I was rolling the paper strip into a cone on my quilling slotted tool, I was gently but firmly bringing it upwards (I don't exactly know how to explain it in words). You have to practice a bit to be able to do this. And the wider the paper strip, I think the easier it is to make a cone, but I didn't want to use too wide of a paper strip because that wouldn't look as delicate for this type of flower. 2) I haven't yet gotten the chance to buy a cone board, that's why I used my mechanical pencil as a mold. So, I don't have experience as to how that board works. But I think the key is to slowly push a tight coil down on the cone, so that it doesn't unravel, you have to be careful with it. I think you also have to be careful as to how tight you make the coil. I think everything you do in quilling probably requires a lot of personal trial and error - practicing until you get the hang of things. Have a wonderful weekend, Melinda! :)

Thank you for your wonderful reply! I think one of the reasons you have such a devoted fan club is that you spend so much time responding to comments. I’m a visual learner so unfortunately what you wrote about how you made the cones isn’t something that I can translate into action. If I could wave a magic wand I’d ask for you to show the same kind of closeup you did in this extraordinary video why also talking about where you’re placing your thumb and how you’re moving the paper, the tool and your thumb. But that’s a really big ask! I’m going to play with the paper and see what I can learn by watching again and rereading what you wrote. It’s truly a gift to learn from so many quilling artists! You give so freely of your time and talent and are inspiring and affecting so many people who love to play with narrow strips of paper!!

Wonderful Miriam. Foxgloves are one of my favourite flowers, I remember them growing in droves along the verges and hedgerows when I was a child. These are complex flowers and you quilled them beautifully. Love how you shaped the cone as you were coiling, very clever, and the beautiful leaves finish them off perfectly. Just gorgeous. ❤😘

They remind me a little bit of the hollyhock flower, with how tall they are, and with their big leaves at the bottom. But they're definitely unique with their cone-like flowers 😊.

Thank you very much, Isabel! 😊 The wire is 0.3 mm thick. I wrapped it in crepe paper.

What do you use to coat them? Is there something you can suggest to waterproof or make them water resistant?

I'm sorry, I rarely coat my artwork and anytime I do it, I usually use some craft varnish that I have on hand, or even glue sometimes (but the glue isn't waterproof, I just use it because I like how it looks when it dries).
