I use quilling mostly for greeting cards and found narrow strips better suited. The wider strips make my cards 3D, and that is much more expensive to mail. You need a special envelope, and the Post Office counts that as a "package" (they check thickness with a ruler), and the postage can be as much as five dollar. The width of the strip depends on the project. I would use 5 mm cardstock for something l display in a shadow box for example.

I have a book called Quilling for Christmas Gifts. One of the instructors calls for a 14x 30 cm white strips. Would 14 be the width and 30 be the length?? With having metrics as measurement, it's confusing to me.
@quillingquelly1785
@quillingquelly1785 8 ай бұрын
There is something wrong with those numbers. They don’t make a proper reference between them. That measurement isn’t for quilling.

What gsm do you use for your 3mm flowers? I really learned a lot from your lesson. Thank you so much! I am working on a card from a picture of my daughter in a running race and i was hoping for some advice. It has turned into a heavy duty project but i am having so much fun! So far i am using 5mm. Would it be better to use 3mm for a card? I could play around with it but i was just wondering what you would do?

Typically I prefer 60 to 90 lbs (27kg to 40kgs). Your coils will be more uniform and if you do loose coils, they will be more evenly spaced. :) I buy pre-cuts from the US and this is the rage of those that I use. I think that if you are producing cards, a more narrow strip may be a good idea, just to keep it in better shape during shipping. :) I'm really glad you are having fun! Great help, tried 3D elephant today, with 5 mm was bit rough. Am 73 & unfortunately just started quilling, but enjoy, realise fingers are stiffer than they were. Would like information on lettering, not yet tried it.

How do you judge how long a length of paper to quill to fill a shape?
@quillingquelly1785
@quillingquelly1785 2 жыл бұрын
That is a very difficult question to answer. Typically precut strips have a standard of 17" length. I'd suggest making a few of your standard shapes and measuring. It's difficult to do because each varies slightly. However, I don't make my strips ahead of time, I make them as I go. (make one, glue one, repeat) However, if you find a better way, I'd love to hear it. That's the wonderful thing about this art form, you'll always be learning, changing, and growing. Thank you for watching!
