@suzarraelizabeth That's a great re-use of those tubes! I just love making things out of nothing! Can't wait to see your new organizer!
@Bright-It4 жыл бұрын
Hello, Cecelia: I think the pockets folder is a good idea! I did the tubes ... For the tubes, I used the 12x12 inches stencil sheet, cut in 2. I rolled to the size and secure it with a clear heavy duty tape, then on top, my adhesive label with info about size, paper and colors. For the caps, I used the caps from one gallon spring water (1.75" ID). The bottom cap is glued in place.

Thanks for all your info cecelia. I have decided to continue to buy my strips for the time being. If you are in Australia, Officeworks have 4- drawer clear plastic storage containers. Each is about $17. It has 3 shallow drawers each big enough for several packets, and the 4th drawer is deep enough for lots of tools.

I love this idea. Normally, I hand-cut my paper, so I store paper mostly as sheets. However, as I'm doing more quilling lately, I have found that I cut a bit more than I need. In the past, I just throw the excess out, as it's just a little bit of paper. Finally decided to make 3 of these storage pages, and now I can save excess strips between projects in a binder with other paper stuff.

Oh my goodness, Cecelia. This is awesome! I won't be using this exactly, but you have so confirmed something I was thinking the other day! I use sideload page protectors that I then stand into magazine storage boxes laid on their side. These boxes hold color groups (reds, pinks, greens, blues, etc) and line my quilling area. The page protector holds long strips, short strips, all length strips and it is a mess to dig out the smaller strips. Now I will add a few short places on one end of the protector! I'm also sharing this on the North American Quilling Guild member only facebook page!

Your videos are so helpful and informative! You explain everything so nicely with such great tips! I loved this idea for storing the quilling paper in plastic page protectors by sewing lines down the page to make multiple pockets per page. I wanted to share an alternative method you might like! I used a roll of vacuum seal plastic for food storage / freezing and my vacuum sealer. I loaded the roll into the vacuum sealer and sealed a line every 1/2” to1” pockets. No sewing needed and can make as many pockets as you like in one continuous plastic roll!

I've had these mats for some time but have never seen the grooves this bad. Is there a to get them out? Just wondering. It really seems to mess up the cutting. Thanks in advance for any advise you may have. I know they're suppose to be self healing but they're not. Anyway have a great day and stay safe. Vicky Wood
@PaperZenCeceliaLouie4 жыл бұрын
LOL!!! Thank you Vicky - you're too kind! If only you knew how much I have to poke and prod myself to make videos - it's truly not my forté. Ah yes, getting grooves in your mat is a dangerous thing. What I try to do is move the position of my cut just a smidge, so that it cuts in a new spot. Or I turn my mat around so it cuts from the bottom. I also try to adjust my blade depth to be just enough, and not too deep. What they mean by self healing is really just a term that means it won't fall apart like a piece of cardboard, but I'll do anything I can to make mine last and last! Happy quilling Vicky!

Great job with this storage solution! I'll definitely use it, after researching a lot on quilling storage solutions. Just a question. As a newbie, I recently bought a multicolored pre-cut set of strips (1/8" x 15"). Is it better to store them separately by color or to keep them in their original package? Thank you and keep up with great ideas!
@PaperZenCeceliaLouie4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ines, glad you like my idea! That’s a really good question. This storage method is better suited to 11” strips because I think 15” strips would end up hanging out of the slots too much. If only they made 15” protective sleeves!!! When I first started quilling, I also used to order the multi coloured strip packs. I tried to keep them together as much as possible but eventually when you start using up all the colors of that pack you have to get another pack or choose to buy all of one color. And then it begins... you become a QUILLER!!! LOL!!! But seriously, as for the longer strips, I prefer to keep mine straight so built a box for them. It was hard to make so I won’t be making a video about it. I can give you a link to my blog post about it though. paperzen.blogspot.com/2014/01/quilling-paper-storage.html?m=1 And this is another older method I used which was quite easy if you have the storage for it: paperzen.blogspot.com/2010/06/quilling-strip-storage-with-corkboard.html?m=1

@@PaperZenCeceliaLouie I just cut all mine to 300mm. I bought some in 630mm strips and I find them too difficult to work with as a beginner, and they are curled to fit in bag.

Yes it is annoying when precut strips won’t lie flat! It’s great we can make our own.

Thanks! I’ve been doing a lot of research and this seems very space and cost efficient! Will this work well with typical 1/8” strips or will they not have enough weight to slide in easily?
@PaperZenCeceliaLouie3 жыл бұрын
Yes I do love this method because it fits in my tiny cubby hole easily and didn’t break the bank to make. I have not yearned for a better solution since. As long as the ends are glued together, 1/8” strips would slide in. However the sleeve is not really long enough for most commonly sold strips which are usually at least double the length of a typical sheet protector. However, I have been working on something for exactly your question! Stay tuned and you’ll see what I’ve come up with!!! I’ve been very eager to tell everyone! 😄

Great idea! Thanks so much for sharing! I had been thinking lately of making a better storage system for my quilling strips... but didn't yet get the chance to do anything. Your idea is very interesting and I hope to try it out in the future! :)

Hi when you sew your sheet protector do you put a thread on your sewing machin or is it just the needle
@PaperZenCeceliaLouie4 жыл бұрын
Hi Lise, I do have thread in the sewing machine and treat the sheet protector as if it were fabric.

i'm watching your quilling sheet oranizer video and i don't see how to print the pattern can you help

Hi Janet, Under each video, you can find the words "SHOW MORE". When you click on that, the video notes will appear. Then you would find the link to my blog, which I've included below. When you visit my blog post, you'll read a section called "Materials". There you'll find the link to download the free PDF pattern for printing. I hope that helps you? paperzen.blogspot.com/2020/02/quilling-strip-sheet-organizer-step-by.html

that is an absolutely awesome idea !!. i have everything cept the sewing machine lol ut i am thinking of just hand sewing it that should work just as well ?:) atm with my just beginning mine are just kept in bundles in my drawer so yeah not the best way this be so much easier and cheaper :) Just need to work out if i just need normal cotton and what size sewing needle to use ....
@PaperZenCeceliaLouie4 жыл бұрын
I’m happy to hear you like my idea Selene! I’m sure hand sewing will be fine too (I’m just really bad at that). As you saw, I had to test 4 times to achieve my final happy result. I still plan to use the first 3 anyway because I don’t want to waste plastic, but I’m glad I could share my own experience so others can benefit.

I don’t have a sewing machine either, so I used a heat tool instead. Took a few practises but it worked! Hope this helps

Thats a brilliant idea, too bad I don't have a sewing machine 😱😐 (don't even know how to use it neither). I'll ask friends if they have one. I don't see what else could be done to replace the sewing machine step..
@PaperZenCeceliaLouie3 жыл бұрын
I'm sure your friends will have a sewing machine and it doesn't take long to do. I've tried and tried to think of other ways too because I'm not a very good sewer myself, but I managed on my mom's old machine. Someone used a bag sealer and it seemed to fuse the plastic together. I do LOVE LOVE LOVE how it helps me keep them all separate though so it's worth the effort.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I'm having trouble downloading the template. It is way bigger than one would need and take 5 sheets of paper to print. It's the same left half of the template, 5 times. I think I will be able to jerry-rig it and use it as is. We'll see. It's a great idea. BTW, I'm using it to organize papers for iris folding, which uses wider pieces but the idea is the same. Thanks. Daniel

Hi Daniel, The file is designed to be printed on a single sheet of paper, as shown in the video. Perhaps your settings have been enlarged. I also prefer to use Adobe Acrobat for printing PDF files. It’s a free program to download.
