Exactly. People keep trying to make excuses for Cole. These are two conscious rappers going at it lyrically, end of story. It’s healthy competition and important moments like this that push hip-hop culture forward. Pretty damn sad that J Cole bowed out submitted the way he did.

Eh I didn't like them rapping over the same beat in the response. That got corny. Fab response was decent but it was a brilliant chess move. Peep he acknowledged his forefathers, sent subtle shot at his peers, but most the responses were from credible mcs who he didn't directly address. By using the same beat they just were adding on to the the hype of the wave. You can tell a lot of fans don't think kendrick lyrical skill is all that but imo it ain't matter. He used the moment to capitalize and build his fanbase and hype. How did it really help everyone else???? Hell even jay elect had a nice verse on the same record and his shit got ignored 😆. Great marketing and chess move.

I’m gonna say this: I keep seeing everyone say this is only going to stick to rap. This beef is only going to be rap and that’s that. Here is my question. Can anyone tell me about a beef that happened in hip hop that wasn’t personal or never gotten to the point where it became personal? Y’all keeping saying it won’t get personal. How can you guarantee that? Rappers and music artists in general are some of the most emotional and prideful people you know. There is only some much that J Cole and Kendrick can say about each other without it being personal. Sooner or later, someone is going to say something that will trigger the other person and then shit pops off.

that’s why i don’t like lyrical miracle rappers, or wanna bes they’re usually pretentious and do things like rap about how good they’re rapping, while rapping .. because they don’t have the ability to write songs that actually sound good - and stick the theme and subject. that’s why they do things to compensate like always call other rappers out, talk down on other sub genres like “mumble rap” and call themselves kings of certain coasts.

Real rap is a lyrical competitive contact sport. Not just streams & swag & drip, blue hundreds.... None of that!!

This isn’t the first time a rapper apologized for his barz in the midst of a beef. When Jay said that line about the baby seat in “Superugly”. His mother told him he want too far and he apologized. No one heard it publicly, but it’s documented that he got checked by his mother and he said yeah, I was doing too much.
