I always wanted to learn how to quilt and brought a few books through the years, but after reading them I felt overwhelmed by all the instructions. COVID came along and I found your book "Quilt As You Go Made Modern." While hanging out at home, I tried your method and now I'm hooked. Since then I quilted 2 table runners, 3 lap throws and now working on a queen size quilt for our bed. Your instructions are clear, easy to follow. Thank you!

Beautiful....I use this method on my t-shirt quilts and call it stitch 'n flip. BTW, if you leave a margin of 1" around the perimeter of the backing, you can just bring it forward to the front, fold the edge 1/4 " under and stitch it down on the top. Voila....no binding strips to make!!

I fell in love with this book when it first came out, so nice to see this on video. My sewing machine broke when I made a rag quilt with flannel fabric because it could not handle the bulk of sewing so many layers together. If you’re not sure, I recommend trying this technique first with the thinnest loft batting and a needle and thread combination that can also handle sewing through all those layers, ESPECIALLY at the seam intersections.

Love the fabric, lace is so cute, Jera is a doll. My concern with adding the backing on at the end is 1) you don't get to see beautiful quilting on the back of your quilt and 2) it does not eliminate the need for me to struggle with a large quilt on my small machine.

I agree - to me this is not traditional QAYG, which quilts the whole square with the backing and then you only have to deal with joining one row at a time, so it fits into a domestic machine. It's very pretty but the backing could easily have been added while the quilting was being done IMHO.

@@GlammyBee Look at Monica Poole's channel on KZbin - she has a very easy to follow style and lots of different ways to QAYG. She always quilts each block individually, through the top, batting and backing, and then they are sewn together in various ways. so when all are attached the quilt only needs binding. Poole Pattern TV the channel is called. :)

Very good video. I really like Jera's method for QAYG. However, I believe sewing strips to batting is enough 'quilting' for blocks this size. But, it's still nice to add echo stitching, if you don't mind more sewing. Not too sure about adding lace, but to each his/her own...Great suggestion with rotating mat AND trimming all corner seams on the back to reduce bulk. Thank you for all of your great tips!

great QAYG for sure! "Stitch in the Ditch" may weaken the connecting block stitches. I'd follow a few of the diamond patterns and gently cross over the block meeting seams to the next triangle. Just my opinion, but I've heard this from some seasoned award winning quilters.

I started this quilt. In hindsight, probably not the best to start with this quilt. Even though I cut the strips to 2.5 inches and do through all the steps exactly as she does, my pieces aren't lining up from block to block. Especially the end ones. I assume this is why people buy jelly rolls because the measurements are exact for each. I centimeters off here and there REALLY do make a difference.
