It seems to be a level of mastery with the Vollstandig. While it doesn't explain Bazz-B's Vollstandig, given he's been part of the Vandenreich for a thousand years, the more elaborately designed Vollstandig might devote a level of mastery with the ability. Alternatively, it depends on the power of the Schrift that Yhwach bestows upon the Stern Ritter. Lille Barro was the first given a Schrift, and the power of said Vollstandig was far above most other Stern Ritter. If Yhwach can control just how powerful a piece of his soul he bestows upon Stern Ritter in the form of Schrifts, it might explain the differences between the various Vollstandig. Yhwach knew Bazz-B wasn't fully loyal, so he might have given him a Schrift that wasn't as potent as others when using Vollstandig, since the technique taps directly into the Schrift's power. But, then again, the Schrift existed for around a thousand years, but the Vollstandig was only developed in the past 200 as a successor to the Letzt Stil.

I personally don't really think your ranking criteria was that useful for denoting potential Vollständig types. I feel it'd be better to categorize them as full or partial releases because it feels like the basic wings and halo Vollständig were just partial releases, while the full releases were the ones with bespoke wings and accessories, names(?), and the noticeable power up to the Schrift. Also, Äs Nödt getting a full transformation makes sense when you realize he was a terminally ill man seemingly granted an extra lease on life in exchange for some body horror.

I like the idea that the more devoted you are to Yhwach, the more elaborate your Vollständig is. That would explain why someone like Bazz has a very basic one, while others like As Nodt/Lille Barro have really dramatic transformations.

Ever since the anime dropped, i was noticing a slight pattern in terms of vollständig wing colours. Its like each color represents an ability type, or adjective, or usage. Here are my thoughts; i dont know how to explain it properly, but the abilities of the Sternritters have something in common in terms of the groups: Red- ability that is physical when unleashed, but the ability itself is a concept, only effecting the user (Bambi's bombs, Gerard's miracles, James' ideal superstar, even Bazz-B's flames) Purple- the ability itself is a concept, but it affects everything in the area (the user, the opponent, even the enviroment; Askin's and As Nodt's powers) Pink- again an ability about a concept, with visible physical properties, affecting the user and the opponent they are fighting (Meninas' and Pepe's abilities) Green- the connection ive found here is that all 3 (Robert, Lille and Candice) are using projectiles when they fight (even in close range) Yellow- an ability that affects/has connection to the user's physical body (Liltotto's mouth changes with it, just like Pernida's nerves or body size) Blue- this might be the most controversial one, cause so far, the only users with this colour were Quilge, Uryu, Giselle and Cang Du, but maybe its something of an ability that the user can toggle by sheer thought.

The real fun fact about vollständig is that for some reason a lot of subs show voll Stern dich which has a different meaning. Vollständig means complete in German and voll Stern dich means full star yourself lol. Which is a funny sub cuz they kinda full star themself like magical girls 🤣. Also the reason Kubo called it vollständig is cuz it’s the complete ( better) version of letzt Stil which means last style cuz it’s originally final getsuga for Quincy’s.

I always assumed it was similar to bankai where some people are naturally gifted at using their vollstandig like Ichigo and some have mastered the technique over the rest of their arsenal similar to Toshiro, it explains why someone like Baz-B who mastered his schrift while ignoring his holy form whereas someone like Askin or As Nodt leaned into their holy forms

I feel like it was hype factor. The hyped up quincy had a bankai like vollstandig while the others were simply small augments to their natural look. It could come down to how much blood they took or how loyal they are that their vollstandig will show through their devotion. As Nodt/Lillie Barro is a good example.

Although I'm disappointed that we didn't get a complete list of Vollstandig names and looks, I actually like that the Vollstandig isn't this dramatic reveal every single time, because let's face it, with almost thirty Stern Ritter that would've gotten boring real fast. I appreciate how Robert and Lilltoto are like, "Let's use our best power up when it's advantageous for us and not wait until we're on death's door."

Not really they'd actually be interesting. This idea that some of them will willingly sacrifice everything and use every skill afforded to them to win forces THE AUTHOR to be creative and actually use every character to the fullest without having to sacrifice time and effort looking for excuses to get rid of a quincy or shinigami "Oh whoops this guy Robert is old and not marketable to young horn boys better give the girls screen time and a bunch to of screen time to a necro who has no skills of their own" The idea of sacrificing quality for quantity is foolish especially since a majority of the shinigami DIDNT put their best foot forward, in fact some of them became worse because of the lack of quality in their writing

@@kerroseir4764 Of course I'll always agree with the rule of "quality over quantity", but a war arc like Thousand Year Blood War demands a large quantity to validate the scale of the conflict. I'm not saying it's impossible to match that with an equal amount of quality, and I'm not saying Kubo shouldn't have bothered trying. But it would become tiresome if every battle in this grand stage conflict played out the exact same way. Watching a villain use every ability at their disposal before finally turning to their trump card in desperation is exciting. Watching it happen for the twenty-sixth time is not. Again, I'm not saying the Quincy are handled perfectly. There are plenty of missed opportunities where the Stern Ritter and Vollstandig are concerned. Robert, whom you already mentioned, is a perfect example of this. And yes, there are ways of showing off a character's abilities outside of one battle. Askin, for instance, is given many opportunities to flesh out his shrift before his battle with Urahara. But my point is that it's refreshing to see Bleach characters willing to use their most powerful asset in order to win, instead of waiting for the moment of maximum hype. It makes diegetic sense, and it gives the Stern Ritter variety if some of them are willing to power up immediately and some are not. It makes sense for Robert to blindside Shunsei and handicap him instead of waiting until the end of the chapter to reveal his Vollstandig. On the other hand, it's more exciting when As Nodt doesn't activate Vollstandig until he has no other choice. It makes sense for Robert to take advantage, and it makes sense for As Nodt to rely on his strongest power-up in a desperate moment. You can have it both ways, so long as you don't abandon the in-universe logic for a cool cliffhanger. TL;DR I agree that Kubo missed the chance to show off many of the Stern Ritter properly, and giving them battles where they have to rely on Vollstandig as their last hope would have been a great opportunity to show them off. But that would've gotten tedious really quickly and would make the "war" as a whole formulaic and predictable. However there are other ways of achieving what you say that would've forced THE AUTHOR the be more creative with his villains.

I had a vid idea: You can rank or discuss the relationship between Shinigami and Zanpukto. I remember either reading the panel or watching the anime when Shinji would speak with Sakanade asking it why are you soo backwards, even the Bankai and Shikai is backwards seeing as one focuses on larger numbers and one focus one just an individual etc. Really cool to see shinigami interact with there zanpuktos and I would say ppl like Ichi, Toshiro, and few others shows this side of conversing with them and having a good relationship with them and this could be expanded upon. My impression when reading the manga was that it depended on which quincies Kubo liked more and their opponents. That's why As Nodt had a badass transformation, because Rukia had to show off. Same applies to the rest.

Kubo was really creative with some of the vollstandig designs while others seemed a bit lazy. Bazz B’s should have been some cool Phoenix wings or something. As Nodt’s was eldrich fear incarnate. I have some hope that the anime hopefully gives Ywach his own vollstandig.

I think the fundamental factors that determine the form of a Quincy's Vollstandig is twofold. The first, the fundamental reason why their forms look different from one another, is personality, much like Zanpakuto, it's obvious that the Vollstandig is a reflection of the personalities and character of each of the users so the style of the Vollstandig reflects each Quincy's unique fighting style and their priorities like Candice using her wings as swords because she's obviously a very aggressive fighter who loves swinging around big weapons and hurling them at opponents while Robert prioritizes quick strikes as he moves in and out of range so he uses the guns instead. The second and probably the aspect that people are forgetting which explains why the different Vollstandigs seem so uneven is that, normally, Quincies DO NOT have powers in the same way that something like a Soul Reaper or a Fullbringers or Hollow have powers. When a Soul Reaper uses Kido or their Zanpakuto and when a Fullbringer uses Fullbring, they're drawing on power WITHIN themselves, while, when an Arrancar uses Resurreccion, they're calling on the power that was formerly WITHIN them. But, Quincy powers DO NOT WORK THIS WAY. Fundamentally, the ONLY power that a Quincy has of their own is the ability to absorb and manipulate Reishi, that's basically it. ALL Quincy techniques and abilities ultimately are simply just different ways to manipulate the Reishi around them. The Schrifts seems somewhat different on the surface and somewhat more similar to a Soul Reaper's power at first, but what they ultimately are is power that has been BORROWED from Yhwach, which is why the Schrifts return to Yhwach when their bearer dies and why they NEED to return to him, so Ywach can return to his full power. THAT'S the fundamental difference! All other races in the Bleach universe use power that is WITHIN them while Quincies manipulate power that is OUTSIDE of them. Ultimately for Quincies, the factor that determines their strength is HOW MUCH reishi they can call upon at any one time, which is affected by both their own skill can Reishi manipulation and also the available Reishi around them or how they already have under control. I think THAT'S the fundamental reason why different Quincy Vollstandig seem to not match each other, each person is drawing on different skill levels and different reserves of Reishi. I think someone like Az Nodt probably has pretty large Reishi reserves built up, both because he was alone for a long time before Rukia showed up, but also I think because he's probably using his skills as a Quincy to keep himself ALIVE! Az Nodt was literally dying before Yhwach showed up after all and, while Yhwach might have given him a boost to his abilities with his own power, I don't think the Fear is what is keeping Az Nodt alive, I think he's probably using Reishi to do it and maybe even to replace is damaged and missing organs! That's why he's able to transform as much as he is, much of his body is Reishi so he can manipulate it when he activates his Vollstandig! It would also explain why he was able to survive being literally frozen solid by Rukia! I think Lille is the same way. His power, the X-Axis, allows him to phase through things, probably by turning his body into Reishi, and so, because literally his ENTIRE body is Reishi, it ALL transforms when he activates Vollstandig! Mask is probably similar given that he has James so probably has a certain about of Reishi that's in his body to allow him to keep James alive and tie the two of them together. This explains why other Quincies like the Bambis and Robert use Sklaverei to absorb more Reishi into themselves to power up their Vollstandigs! These guys are largely unaltered, not to mention that many of them were fighting for a while before using Vollstandig so their Reishi reserves are much smaller than the others, hence they need to take in Reishi in order to have enough to use for their stronger abilities! This also is why Yhwach is so unique! Quincies DO NOT have power of their own, they can only take it in from outside of themselves, but Yhwach can give his power to others and then absorb their power into himself!

For me, when a Quincy is able to TRANSFORM, it's essentially a stage 2 vollstandig and indicates the user is closer to godhood. Obviously Gerard, lille, and Pernida exemplify this, and as nodt likely as well, in fact he could have possibly been chosen as a schutzstaffel if not for dying

When I first saw Bazz B's holy form, I hoped there would be more to it, like the bars being used as extra barrels for him to fire off the Heat and more bars would pop up as he used the other finger techniques. Like for full finger, 10 bars would show up encircle his wrists, 5 on each, and enhance the technique.

one big thing that separated the Vollstandich and other transformations in the series for me is the lack of a Release Command. Shikai, Bankai, and Ressurecions all had a phrase that had to be spoken; "Scatter, Senbonzakura", Grind, Pantera" and even just proclaiming Bankai. I think that little bit of a extra dramatic flair gave so much life to the usage of these powers.

I think it was Kubos time constraints. He probably started with the basic tier for most characters at first. And he later did some more passes, but did so unevenly. Each Tier you made is just one more pass that the character got.

I would argue the degree of transformation is tied to how much the Sternritter in question associates with their power and regards it as a part of themself. It would explain things like As Nodt, who despite not being one of the strongest builds himself completely around the Fear, where Candace or Bazz B almost feel like their Scrift are incidental to who they are. Bazz B especially I feel like he deeply resents his powers, as they're a manifestation of his dependence on Ywach whom he loathes, so his Vollstandig is as basic as can be.

I do think Kubo just did whatever he liked and there was no logic behind it. But if we were to apply logic and try to find some pattern, I'd say it depends on what percentage of the users' power is granted by Yhwach. In analogy to Ichigo, when Ichigo's hollow power dominates him, he looks like a hollow. As Nodt was just a sickly person with zero fighting capability, basically all his fighting power comes from Yhwach, so his appearance got dominated by that portion. Bazz B is powerful to begin with, Yhwach's letter just grants him a little enhancement, relative to Bazz's own power (or maybe Yhwach just doesn't trust Bazz so he didn't grant him that much power). So his Vollstandig looks insignificant.

Not the main topic, but I personally at least always thought the two main reasons why Volständigs never felt as impactful as an Arrancar’s Resurreción or a Bankai are: 1. Inconsistency in appearance and scale 2. The spotlight “reveal” moment for Sternritter is usually their Schrift, not the holy form

My own interpretation of this when I first read these chapters was admittedly less interesting than these theories but it worked for me. It was simply: They're human. And so the expression of their powers were far more unstructured and unpredictable than that of the soul reapers or hollows, both of which have swords with their own spirits who must be connected and merged with in order to increase in power. Quinces are different, there's no sword, no other spirit, it's only their own soul and the piece given to them that they are missing. And so their powers and transformations are volatile, just like human souls.

Okay, here we go: TYBW was really crunch timewise, every chapter was tying down one plot or another, so the attention was rationed for the big names, the Espada had ten members and ths Sternritter had 26, that's a lot to cram in a faster arc. -Super forms tend to follow a theme of fusion like Bankai sometimes altering the user because them and zankakto unite, in this case instead of a personalized sword spirit what they use is a somewhat larger sliver of Ywach's soul so the closer they align with him, the deeper the fusion and the more power they gain As Nodt had a very significant connection with Ywach because he was terminal before getting recruited and was terrified of the inveitable, fear and the King were cornerstones of his being thus his transformation signified that. -Gerard was implied to had his power before being recruited, and to not be quite a quincy ablitiy, he uses it in conjuction with his powers. Pernida is on the same situation -Sklaverei is often pretty contentious because it is a very strong ability assuming Quilgie was the average since it can disintegrate spritual bodies outright, though as he said, he prefered not to use it. -The new anime is adressing some of the issues Kubo had with the rush of the original manga ending so we can expect more details like that to come up and get polishsed

What if the deciding factor isn't how strong someone is overall, but instead how much of Yhwach's power they've taken in? This lines up somewhat, with As Nodt requiring a LOT of Yhwach's power to even become a Sternritter as he was shown to be sickly and bedridden previously, and with Lille being Yhwach's creation ofc he would have poured a meaningful amount of power into him. Then characters like Gerard or Perneida, who have overwhelming power as an individual but had that power previous to Yhwach, get smaller amounts of Yhwach's power shared with them and so then have more minor Vollstandigs.

It's very clear, especially as of the anime, that there do exist partial vs complete Vollständig. I mean, look at what the Bambis did, and even Robert activates a more complete form of Grimmaniel with boots and a visor/mask. All of these forms are activated simply by gathering more reishi.

I honestly found the Vollstandig to be pretty frightening back in the day. The entire angelic theme + names like _Piskiel 'Justice of God'_ is all just very eerie. The Quincy have angel wings, halos, domination over reishi and powers invoking the might of God. It makes the fight seem futile. What could you possibly do to fight an angel of God? The explanation for Asnot for me is that he isn’t much of a physical fighter so his full power might be able to completely cripple the strongest opponent if they have a hint of fear in them. Like if komamura sanji losing yama seeing the F final form just give him a heart attack right there but byakuya had experience and was coaching rukia so it didn’t work. Because it don’t seem Asnot form is strong, just a decay rotten body

Did we ever get an explanation of how engraving a letter on a quincy actually works? Is it something that always was a part of their soul and just gets awakened or a completely new power just given to them? I always thought the different forms were just how intune with their letter each sternritter was. As nodt has experienced absolute terror, projects absolute terror and changed how he dressed and acts just to become more terrifying. In short he is fear. Where’s burner finger guy has heat powers. May be a little hot headed and had a Mohawk…. So he only gets noob fire wings

The Shrifts are innate to the Quincy, Yhwach just names it and gives a "power up", but he doesn't give them, even if two people have the same letter, the meaning may be different as idk, F The "Fear" and F The "Fake" (idk a random name). The Quincy has the power, but Yhwach awakens it.

My Headcanon has always been: THe more devoted to Yuha they are the stronger/more elaborate their Holy Forms. Quincies that question Yuha like Bazz B and Liltotto had strong Schrifts but very basic Holy Forms. Quincies that where unquestionably loyal be it through fear or genuine devotion had an evolving Holyform and appeated to be somewhat stronger then the rest. Rukia being able to counter Äs Nodt by temporarily killing herself was a cool thing but also a pretty standard "Rock, Paper, Scissor" moment that plagues the entire 1000 Year Bloodwar arc. I dont think any other (as of the moment alive) Shinigami would have been able to defeat Äs Nodt. Not even Byakuya after his survival as he was slowly but surely affected by the enhanced Fear Äs Nodts final form instilled.

I think it could be a matter of choice, how much reishi the sternritter wants to put into their holy form when doing the ritual. For example, Bazz B, who isn’t taking the war seriously and can low diff a captain in base, doesn’t put much effort into his vollstandig. Robert values speed and the Bambi’s are overconfident or laid back so they start in basic form and use Sklaverai to enhance it as needed. Mask values flash and Bambietta rages so they put a bit more into it. Quilge and Askin take things seriously so they put in the effort for a more complete vollstandig from the start. As Nodt was on the back foot and tried going neuclear on Rukia, and Lille is so powerful a complete transformation is simple for him, and he only used the lesser version because it was activated for him by the Auswhalen.

I still sad that we got 30 SternRitter and only half of them show their Vollstandig, I would love to see what Cang Du, BG9, Berenice, Gremmy, and Shaz would look like. Maybe we get them in Brave Souls, Kubo can reveal those Vollstandig in the game, since we will never seen them in the anime, unless Kubo does have design and reveal them later for the fan like he did with Bambietta's full form and name getting revealed. Guess we have to wait and see. Of course I'm an Arrancar fan and I enjoy ever release form we got from near everyone.

One of my biggest gripes with these forms was the lack of them for some sternritter. It is one of the best interpretations of a final form Kubo has created and different enough from Bankai,. Yes they could be explained with some newer or weaker sternritter not having mastered this technique, I feel as though people like Bazz B could’ve had more done with the ability. Also, never going to get over Uryu not having one or at least not using it 😩.

I think it has to do with power and development from the stern Ritter himself. For example, As Nodt makes good use of his Volstandig to increase fear, or maybe he even attempted for a first time to 'evolve' into his last sort of incomplete form. Maybe it was a product of his desperation. That is different from Lille who has total control of his, as he's the oldest Quincy somehow. Maybe some characters simple don't like or haven't needed to develop and always used their base form or even no Volstandig at all, like Gremmy. One parallel would be Ichigo or Renji's bankai, as they clearly matured, evolve and got near their full power after some serious training and time. Maybe the wings only is like shikai, and the full transformation is like Bankai. I just think Kubo likes to make everyone different from the other, even if that means keeping some secrets or some inconsistencies for us. I personally would love to see Uryu and Haschwalth in their holy forms, but what would it do to their already broken powers. The same goes for Yhwach never using Yama's Bankai or some other Stern Ritter power when fighting Ichibei or Ichigo. Maybe he thought he didn't need. But for us fans it'd nice to see Ichigo and Uryu trying to fight an army of zombies, or even their parents helping. The truth is The Almighty is so broken it would all feel hopeless or just like spending time and not really interested. Maybe that's why he never used any of that.

Bankai and vollstandig serve the same role resurrection does not for a Quincy or a shinagami the transformation enhances and empower their already prevalent abilities and allows them to fight more aggressively but an arrancar on the other hand can’t do anything outside of their transformation all their power are sealed so it almost feel lack luster or boring watching their fight since their watered down and simplified with few exceptions like the second and ninth espada actually being able to manifest their abilities in a sealed state albeit weaker the other were just generic arrancar 5 6 and 7

Personal head cannon, they all start with a basic vollständig with its appearance based off preference/personality traits, then through training you get the second tier of vollständig where you can pick and choose what it looks like, and finally the third tier where you combine it with your shrift thus giving full body transformations. You just have to train to get the more powerful forms.

The fodder quincy soldiers were more menacing at first, the quincies utilized more quincy techniques at first instead of bulls powers, there was more quincy blue at first, fights were longer and more in debt at first and even the holy forms were better and more impactful at first.

I think that, perhaps, the appearance and power level of the Völlstandig is linked to both the innate reiatsu level and the amount of reishi the quincy can/wants to control at the moment. This can explain why some have multiple forms (e.i. The Bambis gathering more reishi to booster thekr tranformations), or Geralt changing his form as yhe battle goes onwith stronger opponents. I think that if the arc were to be longer, most characters would get other forms since they'd notice that their basic transformation are lacking in power, but most were defeated before they had time to do so

If it was not for As nod, I would say that this ranking reflects their rank from strongest to weakest. It could simply be based on how long someone has trained with their Vollständig. As nod could simply have trained in nothing but it, while the rest trained up their basic skills instead of specializing.

I do believe that Gerard's final form before he was killed by the Auswhalen IS his own version of the "complete" transformation style of Vollstandig, because he becomes an avatar of light, the same light of the Miracle that would recreate his lost limbs. It would make sense for him and Lille to have these forms, because they and Pernida are the "holiest" of Yhwach's minions and Gerard himself has the heart of the Soul King (perhaps Lile will be revealed to also have a portion of Reio's power?). As for As Nodt, though, I think it's a happy coincidence. Because his Fear Schrift is supposed to be spooky, him powering up into his Tatar Foras would and SHOULD change his appearance to something that would, indeed, make you panic just by looking at it. As for his final, grotesque form, I think it's Tatar Foras exchanging all finesse for sheer power, similar to Frieza's 100% Power form in Dragon Ball. All the fear he wants to cause turns him into the monster he wants to be, but it's all brute strength and the ability to instill Fear takes a massive hit.

I think the theory of loyalty might work if you change loyalty for devotion. How far are they are willing to go and let their power consume them in order to keep fighting. Remember the Quincy already have a similar power: The Ransoutengai, that keeps them fighting even if their body is physically unable to keep going. So having a power up that feed on your devotion to keep fighting regardless if it kills you and deforms your body might work.

The addage of the sklaverrei in the anime made me think the more elaborate ones are caused by the usage of sklaverei. Base form is available to every quincy once they can use vollstandig and they then boost it with sklaverrei into a new form over time.The only 2 exceptions to that, as far as i can remember are Mask as his form changed a bit each time after he got a buff from the little helper and gerald his body also changed over time as he was slowly getting stronger with each passing defeat. Could still work as it works on the same principle of getting stronger while using vollstandig ( Base form and then using sklaverrei to get stronger changes that form ) where-as mask and gerald used vollstandig, got defeated and returned stronger thanks to how their abilities work, including a different form in their vollstandig. Pernida is still a weird one as it starts out as a hand and doesn't get any changes besides golden wings when it is still cloaked but once the cloak is gone, no vollstandig anymore.

Personally, I feel the reason Vollständig feel so different from the other transformations is that they are fundamentally a gift bestowed by Ywach that he can activate and take away at will. The other transformations belong to the user and are an expression of their inner selves, so they are granted all this importance and gravitas, but because Quincy: Vollständig is not this expression of the soul, it doesn't have quite the same importance. To me, this distinction also is what separates the Quincy power system from basically every other faction, and it's why the Sternritter as a whole struggle to grasp the sentience of Zanpakuto and their bonds with their wielders. The Schrift and Vollständig do not operate this way.

I honestly think there is indeed a correlation between the faith/loyalty each sternritter has in Yhwach and the look/size of their wings and the additional body changes they have once they transform Of course all have faith in the figure of Yhwach but the apperance of their Vollstandings truly reflect more of the level of faith that they have deep down, so the more mass their wings has show to us more of the character in question that kinda explain why Bazz-B has the most basic form, he have to a degree some faith in Yhwach but he has just the bare minimum while the ones with a bigger faith have more complex wings Judging for the size and mass of Lilttoto and Giselle's wings it seem both also have a bare minimum of faith in Yhwach and that seem to explain why they don't hesitate in oppose Yhwach once he betray them Robert seem to fear more for his life that have faith in Yhwach. Nanana and Meninas apparently have a similar level of faith (at least more than the first ones) Bambietta and Candice seemed to be more loyal/invested on the Wandenreich and the orders Yhwach give them that the rest of the Bambies so probably that's the reason their wings have more of a practical use in battle Mask has a slight additional elements on his volstanding and it seem his body could be close to experiment some changes, on the other hand Askin has a more complex amount of elements but still don't show physical changes and moving from this point the level of faith and perhaps fanaticism the remaining sternritters have it reached a point where their bodies start to experiment actual physical changes
