Thanks ! Just starting this process. I do 20x24 silver negs and want to get to making wet plate positives. I read your book over and over and will start with 8x10 and use trays for the baths.

Saw this by replay, good stuff as always. My main quality issue is limiting my variables, especially outdoor light under trees (no studio). Now to move my commercially bottled collision into a clear bottle to better judge its color. Ciao

Thanks, Don! Outdoor light is difficult because you are constantly "chasing the light:". In a matter of a few minutes (pouring the plate, sensitizing, etc. cloud cover, time of year, etc.). Once you nail it, there's nothing better! Thank you for your support!

Hi Quinn, From your perfekt tutorials I understood, that one intend to overexpose - and actually my exposuretime in this German wintertime tend to 40-50 sec (with studiolights - UV lamps included). Could you talk a little about your setup - especially about the light - so that 5 - 10 sec are realistic? Thank you very much - and please go ahead. Your tutorials are so helpful!!! Cheers Bernd

I'm tripping. I have not been using a pour off bottle for my collodion. How bad is this? I mix smaller batches but I don't know if that would make any difference. What type of issues might I see by pouring my pour off back into my pour bottle. Now I'm scared I have ruined all my mixed collodion. 😔

Hi Vanessa, don't worry, nothing bad will happen to pour back into the "pouring bottle". If you use a separate "drain bottle" you maintain the solvents in the "poor bottle". Also, if you're outside, and you get debris on the plate (fly, dust, etc.) you can easily remove that from the "drain bottle". You will lose solvents (evaporation) and you can reconstitute that drain bottle so it's like new.

Love that rotating doorway. For us in the UK does any body know what denatured alcohol is? Is it something like mentholated spirits, I asked in the chemist and they had never heard of denatured alcohol.

Darkroom doors are the best! Yes, denatured alcohol contains additives to prevent consumption. Methylated Spirits (MEK) are/is denatured.

hi Jacob, always again I'm unsure what alcohol i should use as most of them are denaturated...will this work ? Ethyl Alcohol (ETHANOL) 96% 2 bottles of 250 ml each Do not drink, Only for external uses. Composition: ethyl alcohol 96% v/v Partially denatured with cetrimide of 0.25 to 0.3% m/V.

This is denatured. I would be hesitant to use that but it will probably work. It contains cetrimide, an antiseptic. And it is 1% stronger than I recommend - 95% should be the volume of ethanol and 5% water - no additives. Try a small batch and see if it works. It probably will.

@@quinnjacobson the one i use at the moment is also a 96% one but i only got 1 Liter and looking for a bigger tank like 5-10L :) of course for a decent price. (in europe) :) thanks for your Answer Jacob
